The letter and number are two different measurements.. The number is inches across and the letter is 'cup' size..
I'm a 36 B, for example, but there are 36 Cs, Ds, and so on..

The number (36) is the band size, and the letter is the cup size.. So two people may have a 36 band size, but one could be a 36B and the other a 36C depending on their cup size..

The letter denotes the cup size.. The 36" should be measured under the bust and you should measure again at the nipple.. The difference between the two indicates what cup size to choose.. A clerk at a good department store like Nordstrom can help you with this..Health Question & Answer
measure around the fullest part of your breasts.. now measure around your rib cage right under your breasts.. the difference in inches between the two is your cup size.. Now if you add 5 to your rid cage size that gives you the size of your band..Health Question & Answer
