Ok, i am a resident assistant and one of my freshmen residents came to me with this question and i'm not quite sure of the answer. Apparently this girl is on the pill and has never missed or been late taking one by more than 10 minutes. She also said her now ex boyfriend always used a condom and it never broke. Now, she has gotten her period on the pill every month following intercourse (no changes in type of bleeding or difference in cramps). She said she would be in her 5th month by now if she were (so i guess she wouldnt still be wearing her size 0 jeans). she also said that she has take several hpt's since june all negative as well as two hospital administered urine tests that also came up negative. She wants to know if there is a chance she could still be pregnant since she recently found out that her birth mother (she was apparently adopted) "did not know" until the end of her 6th month. I personally think she has a larger anxiety issue here rather than a pregnancy issue but for her peace of mind i will put this question out there. Health Question & Answer

I think you really hit the mark by guessing that the larger issue is anxiety. She has gotten her period, she has taken multiple home pregnancy tests. I doubt she has anything to worry about. If she is really that worried she should see her doctor. Hopefully the doctor will see that there is an anxiety issue at hand, as well. Apparently you can get pregnant even if you use a condom so there is a minimal chance but in this case - a good hot meal with carbs even and all the fat on the meat! Health Question & Answer

It is possible. There always is a chance to get pregnant, even the people who are being 200% careful. My boyfriend's cousin was on the pill and wearing condoms and she got pregnant. It is also possible to not know for a while, some people have no symptoms during pregnancy, and sometimes the baby is growing more back further into the uterus so it's not that apparent. My friend was 8 months pregnant and she could hide it really well with a sweater, you could barely tell she was pregnant.
I do think though that this girl is more anxious about becoming pregnant than actually being pregnant. It sounds like she is psyching herself out - a little bit of a hypochondriac. I would definitley say she isn't, on the pill or not, .1 % of women who are pregnant will keep bleeding & if they do, it wouldn't carry on for 5 months, that's dangerous. If she is on the pill & never had one condom break, she really needs to stop worrying, sperm doesn't magically seep through a condom & defy how the pill works, even if both aren't 100%. Maybe she knew her relationship was ending & WANTS to be pregnant to get this boy back.? Or she could seriously be denying the fact that a condom DID break or she WAS late for a pill or really ISN'T getting her period. You need to have a serious talk with her, if she were 5 months, she'd be showing as well. When I was 2 months I was showing & if she's a size 0, she most certainly would be! If she is so worried, get in your car, take her to the hospital & get an ultrasound done or some kind of blood work so she can see once & for all that this 5 month pregnancy with no symptoms that happened with no real chance for sperm to come into contract with her uterine wall is all something she is making up.Health Question & Answer
Condoms are not 100% and if he ever penetrated before putting a condom on, or she was ever inconsistent on her pills (we all occasionally forget), then yes - it is possible she's pregnant. However - if she's taken several preg tests and none are coming back positive, but she's still worried - she should go to a local family planning clinic and get a professional test (done via blood work) instead. She also may be very stressed because she is thinking about it so much. Stress, as well as poor diet/nutrition, can lead to missed periods. Health Question & Answer
