Ans. said she was preg. 6mo before it was to be removed. i'm in college and hubby and i can NOT afford to get pregnant at all right now. i can't get another IUD b/c we will be TTC in about 3-4 years and i can't afford another IUD. i'm planning on going to the nuva ring. thoughts here.?Health Question & Answer

The reason that it needs replacing after 5 years is because the amount of hormones it releases gradually decreases over time and at 5 years it has reached a level that is too low to be effective. I would say if you're worried about it, Just have it removed and go with something that makes you feel more comfortable and safe.

I have had mine in for 1 year and 9 months. I will be TTC in approx. 8 months. I have heard that it can take several months, sometimes even up to a year to return to fertility after removal. That fact, in addition to some recent side effects has made me decide to have it removed and use something else for the next 8 months. Probably the patch as I've used it before.

As always, I think it's best to go with your gut and what makes you feel most comfortable. You're the one that has to live with the decision and/or consequences of it, So do what's best for you :) Good luck!Health Question & Answer
