Is my Gym teacher aloud to do this?!

Question: Is my Gym teacher aloud to do this.?
Today in gym, we were warming up for football. We had to run around the gym and jump this small hurdles in different ways, they were low though. I have asthma, and it was really bothering me today. By the second lap, I felt really light headed and I felt my chest tightening up, and my throat felt like it was closing. I was also wheezing. I asked my teacher if I could get my inhaler and sit out for the rest of class, and I told him my condition. And he said that I could go get my inhaler but I still have to play. I could barley breathe during football, yet he did nothing about it. He thought I was lying to sit out. Do you think he's aloud to do that to me.? If it serves any purpose, I am in ninth grade and I am fourteen years old.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
As a trainee teacher myself, I have ran PE (gym) classes where a student has asthma, and I have always let them sit out.

Teachers can tell when someone is faking it, he is in the wrong and should have let you sit out, maybe not for the whole game, but until you got your breath back.

I would report him to a senior PE member of staff and let him/her know what occurred, you could also get your parent(s)/guardian to write a letter explaining your asthma and that it is important you sit out to catch your breath.Health Question & Answer

No actually he can't do that. If your school nurse has a note from your parents or doctor saying you have asthma, than he has to let you sit out. Even if you don't have a note, he should still let you sit down until you feel better. Because it will be his fault if you get worse than what you were. An inhaler doesn't always help, I would know I have asthma, sometimes you just need to sit down and breathe.Health Question & Answer

Your gym teacher was very wrong,i am afraid that i disagree with pix ii3 a teacher cannot always know if a child or adult is faking an asthma attack. The only person who would know for sure would be a doctor and then using a stethoscope. If you are a long term asthmatic then you will know how dangerous an attack can be.I would advise you to obtain a letter from your parent/guardian or doctor to explain the situation to your gym teachers.hope this helps and hope your asthma will soon be under control.Health Question & Answer

That was definitely unfair of him. And if you had an inhaler it must have been proof to him that you weren't lying, apart from being out of breath.
A doctors note should convince him.Health Question & Answer

If you told him you're asthmatic and he still "forced" you to play, then he is in the wrong. You could tell your Principal about this.Health Question & Answer

Get a doctor's note to give to him, that way next time he knows it is for real. Health Question & Answer

No you honestly should have asked to speak to the principal.Health Question & Answer

he should have let you sit out till you got ur breathe backHealth Question & Answer

I have asthma too and i know exactly the feeling you are talking about. He is not allowed to do that. you have a medical condition and what if you were to collapse because of being short of breath.? it could be all on his hands and he clearly doesn't realize this. Next time ask to go to the nurse and tell her what's going on and i'm sure she can write a note for you to be excused when your breathing is acting up. Be careful and listen to your body!
You'll be glad you did. Best of luck!!
