okay so i just put in a super tampon, and like an hour later my tampon is almost saturated with blood. you could still see white part. but my question is: How many times should i change my tampon at school.? i know you cant leave them in for 8 hours or more..

If you are bleeding that much, obviously you will need to change them more often or else it will be too soaked with blood to absorb anymore, in which case blood would leak out into your underpants and possibly soak through your clothes (very embarrassing!) You can wear a pantyliner or small pad at the same time to prevent accidents like this, but you will still need to change your tampon regularly. If you are bleeding very heavily, you may end up changing after only an hour or so, like you said. As you get to the end of your period it should lighten up quite a bit and you can increase the amount of time you leave it in, up to 8 hours. Leaving in longer than that puts you at risk for TSS. Just use your best judgement for how often you change tampons, depending on how heavy the blood is for that day. If you feel you need to change your tampon or pad and are in the middle of class, just say you have to go to the restroom. They don't have to know what you are doing, and it's nobody's business but yours. Health Question & Answer
