usually it is more than that like 24 hours. Two of my friends just had it done. They were only allowed clear liquid the day before nothing else.Health Question & Answer

When I had mine it was performed at 8:00 am in the morning. I had to only drink clear liquid all of the previous day, take some pills to clean out my colon, and not consume any food or drink after midnight the night before the test. I also had to do an enema the next morning to make sure nothing was left in my colon.

You are correct they will not do the test if anything is present in the colon so that they can not see the surfaces. When the test is done, you are slightly sedated and they fill the colon with air so the tube can move around in the colon and see all of the surfaces.

Your bfs mom needs to contact the doctor if she has any questions regarding what she is allowed to do.Health Question & Answer

Because of the sedation they use, it's likely that you'll vomit if you've had something to eat and possibly drown.

When the procedure being performed is a colonoscopy, however, it's doubly important. It's hard for them to do the test if your colon is full of last night's snack! Health Question & Answer

No food or drink after midnight is right, it could make you sick with any type of procedure. Health Question & Answer
