eh. i'm having a colonoscopy monday.
i'm extremely nervous. i'm 16. i'm freaked. i've had lots of problems, so i know i need this procedure...but i'm scared.

It is not anything to freak about. I had my first one in January. The day before your test you are not to eat anything and only drink clear liquids. That means things you can see through. Your doctor should have given you instructions. Drink 7-up, Mountain Dew, broth, water, and you can eat jell-o and Popsicles, but none with red food coloring. Like lime or lemon jello and banana Popsicles. You will take some little pills that come in a kit in the evening and probably drink a small amount of liquid. These will give you diarrhea and empty your colon. After midnight you don't eat or drink any at all. In the morning, someone will probably have to help you take an enema (worst part) to make sure you are cleaned out. If you don't get completely cleaned out they can't do the test and you may have to start over again in a few days.
At the hospital, they will have you remove your clothes and put on a hospital gown, get in bed and cover up. They will put an IV in your arm to administer liquids or medication. They will give you a shot to calm you down which will make you sleepy. In the surgery room, they will give you anesthesia, you won't know anything else until you wake up and it is all done.
In my opinion, not eating and getting ready for the test is far worse than the test. You will be fine, it's a piece of cake once you get through the preparation.

There is nothing to be scared about. The procedure itself is completely painless. It is the drinking and cleansing part the day before that is horrid.. you have to cleanse your colon so they can see with the scope. The last time I had one (last friday) I was put to sleep for only a few minutes. I've never had any discomfort afterward either. You'll be fine!Health Question & Answer

but because they give you pain killers and sedatives or what ever its called, some people have no memory of the test. that would be like.... embarassing. but its gotta be done, and you can't get around it so just what the hell ever. i would just say who cares and get it over with. then think nothing of it even though that'd be kinda hard.Health Question & Answer
