I made myself throw up and not much came out...?!

Question: I made myself throw up and not much came out....?
I made myself throw up because I was feeling nauseous and I wanted to see if I had a stomach bug (in which case, i assumed i would throw up a lot). But when I made myself throw up, only a little came out, and it was a great effort. What does this mean.? I still feel nauseous! What can I do to stop this feeling.?Health Question & Answer

Hello. I work in a hospital and see this sort of thing often. I will advise you not to make yourself throw up. There's a lot of acid in your stomach and when you make yourself throw up, you're bringing all of that acid up into your throat. Over time, the acid will eat the lining of your esophagus...sort of like acid reflux. It's not a pleasent issue. You may not have thrown up much this time because there isn't much in your stomach to begin with. Try eating a few crackers or taking an anti-nausea medication, like pepto-bismol
Hope you feel better!Health Question & Answer

It means that you have bad gap reflex and if you don;t stop it, you will try great effort to try to make yourself gag, like the girl who went to the ER with a fork stuck in her throat because her gag reflex did not work so she used a fork and it got stuck in her throat.Health Question & Answer
