Is it okay to leave a tampon in for only 3-3 1/2 hours?!

Question: Is it okay to leave a tampon in for only 3-3 1/2 hours.?
At school I can only change my tampon during certain periods in which it would be easy (like lunch or gym). I just started using them today, and have a pretty heavy flow (but it's been decreasing since I'm towards the end).
After having one in for about 5 hours, I put another in but only kept it in for about an hour because I had to take a shower.
At school I would change them about halfway through the day, which means I'd only have the first one in for about 3 1/2 hours.
The box says to leave them in for 4-8 hours.
Would just 3 be okay.?Health Question & Answer

There is nothing wrong with 3-3 1/2 hours. Make sure on heavy days you use a tampon that is good for heavy flow. They make different sizes for different times when you are on your period. I always use a liner, just in case. Some ask about leaving it in longer........?
8 hours is too long for me personally. if my period is that light that in after 8 hours my tampon still isn't full, i would be using a panty liner. it says you can have it in up to 6-8 hours but you shouldn't have to wait that long for it to be full. TSS usually occurs after 8 or more hours.
I think you are right on track, that was the very thing i used to do in school and it always worked. I hope this info helped you.Health Question & Answer

You can leave them in for eight hours without heightening your risk for Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).

How long you can leave them in without them starting to leak depends on your flow. If you need to leave them in for a few hours, try to get the super plus absorbency type. Health Question & Answer

it's totally fine. i do that when my period is heavy: i change them sooner than what the box says because my flow is heavy. as long as when you take it out, make sure it doesn't hurt. when removing a tampon hurts, it means that it hasn't absorbed enough blood and should have stayed inside a little longer.

hope this helps...^.^Health Question & Answer

Yes, it is fine. You can leave a super tampon in over night to keep your heavy flows in check. Just change it when you wake up in the morning. Tampons won't hurt you unless you go for a couple of days then you could get toxic shock syndrome. It just depends on your genetics.Health Question & Answer

yes. i use the light tampons but for a few hours its heavier, i just take it out sooner. you NEVER want to leave it in more then 8 hours.Health Question & Answer

Yes... as long as you are using the right type of tampons (absorbency rate) Do not leave it days and day... It can cause toxic effect.Health Question & Answer

thats what i do but i bleed through them thats why i do it like that. but i dont think it will hurt.Health Question & Answer

Read the box again, I'm sure you will find it says not to leave the tampon in for more than 4-8 hours. No harm in changing them sooner.Health Question & Answer
