Should I have a Hysterectomy ?!

Question: Should I have a Hysterectomy .?
I'm 26 years old. I have 3 children already and I know I don't want anymore. Even worse case scenario, and something happened to any of my children, I know I wouldn't want another. What do you think.? And will the doctor allow me to have one.?Health Question & Answer

Think you mean to be sterilised. I had this done when I was 26 after having 2 lads and to be honest it was the best thing I could have done. You have to be 100% sure that you don't want any more children as you are advised this is a permanent form of contraception. Think if anything happened to your hubby and kids, you met a new man and you thought about having a family together....
You need to talk to your GP or at least go to family planning, they will probably advise something less permanent. As for the op itself, it knocked me for a couple of days then I was fine.Health Question & Answer

That does seem a little drastic, and you wouldn't be given a hysterectomy, it would be a sterilisation.

It would be FAR better for your husband to have a Vasectomy. Laparoscopic sterilisation can be very painful .The procedure itself has a number of risks; there is the risk of anaesthetic itself, abdomen surgery is a high risk procedure and there is always a risk of infection. Many women suffer long terms effects of sterilisation which can include pelvic pain, problems with menstruation and many find that they later in life need a full hysterectomy.

In contrast, the vasectomy is a minor procedure with local anaesthetic and a few small incisions.

This of course is a permanent method of contraception, and one that requires serious consideration/thought before going ahead with. As you have had 3 children, your Dr may well agree to this. However you are still young, what would happen in a few years time if you changed your mind.?Health Question & Answer

You are too young for a hysterectomy. No doctor would do this procedure on you. I advise talking with your OB/GYN and discussing your birth control options. Having a tubal ligation (getting your tubes tied) is preferable if you do not want anymore children. It is considered a permanent form of sterilization (although there have been some success with reversal). There is also a procedure called Essure that is a non-surgical way of sterilization. Please talk to your OB/GYN and get all the facts and options. Good Luck to you!Health Question & Answer

You could have your tubes tied.
I believe that sometimes that's reversible, just in case you ever wanted another.
In England you wouldn't be able to have it done on the NHS easily, so you would be looking to go private.
Don't forget that it is pretty major surgery, unless you can have it done via the vagina.Health Question & Answer

You don't want a hysterectomy, that will put you straight into menopause, unless you take hormones for the rest of your days, anyway no surgeon would do the operation without medical cause, and you will have a job getting your tubes tied at your age, most clinics wont do it till you are over 30, so you will have to re-think, maybe a long lasting contraceptive thats injected under your skin in a rod would be the best thing for you, go to your local family planning clinic and ask, these can last for up to three years putting your mind at rest about contraception, go and have a chat with them, they will help you.

Health Question & Answer

Hi there.

Yes, the doctor will allow you to have one because it's big money. Some women, against their will, have their reproductive organs taken out.

I ask you to consider something: you are taking apart out of you that can you cannot get back again. Would you cut off your arm because you have no need of it.? No.

When you remove your reproductive organ, you also remove viable, healthy hormones that make us - us. Women. Don't do it.

You may consider, 10 years later that you want another child. Life changes. You will change. You are very blessed to have children.

Best wishes. :) Health Question & Answer

As nobody else seems to have mentioned - a hysterectomy is the removal of your entire womb. It is a major operation and carries with it some serious side effects so it is only ever performed because of a medical problem. Of course you mean sterilised - in which case you would need to consider it very carefully...which the surgeon performing the procedure will make sure you have.Health Question & Answer

u dont get a hysterectomy to prevent conception,u have a tubal ligotomy("getting ur tubes tied>")no doctor in their right mind would remove a 26 year old womans uterus and ovaries, unless she had cancer, why.?u would go into "surgical menopause".instead of a gradual change in ur 40's and 50's,u would instantly wake up from surgery in menopause-with resultant hot flashes, vaginal dryness, risk of heart disease and osteop[orosis.and possible decrease or loss of ur sex drive!u would age before ur time.who wants that.?having ur tubes tied leaves u with all ur female organs in place, producing the protective hormones that will gaurd u against heart problems and osteoporosis until u age naturally.these hormones also keep ur skin and hair vibrant and youthful.if u have 3 children,u are a candidate for this surgery(tying the tubes). and women younger than u,with full families have had it done.im surprised ur dr hasnt suggested this as an option.Health Question & Answer

Why don`t you just have a sterilisation .?....... the answer to your Q is no ... unless you have severely heavy periods or fibroids or menstrual conditions .. they will not give you a hysterectomy ..it`s too invasive and you will go into early menopause which can itself cause problems, they will advise The Mirena hormone coil, then sterilisation which is clamping your fallopian tubes ... A hysterectomy is removal of the womb ..it is more drastic than a sterilisation ..Health Question & Answer

A hysterectomy is extremely drastic, not to mention doctors won't perform one unless there is a medical reason. It would be much safer for you to use the IUD Mirena or ask your partner to get a vasectomy. Not to mention that a hysterectomy can be quite painful and expensive. Health Question & Answer

Nope, you can't have a hysterectomy merely as a method of contraception. The physical risks to you of having the procedure for no real reason would be unacceptable.

The correct surgical procedure to avoid pregnancy is called Vasectomy!Health Question & Answer

There are alot of alternatives and I really dont think a doctor will do an "ELECTIVE" Hysterectomy. Unless you have a underlying condition or a reason. if your periods are the problem you should look into uterine albasion. good luck!Health Question & Answer

Thats a bit drastic! just get your tubes tied, or even better get Hubby/BF to get the big V it's much easier for the guy to get fixed and besides you have been through the trauma of birth 3 times so it's the least he could really!Health Question & Answer

there's no need for a hysterectomy, just because you dont want children anymore. there are other ways. A hysterectomy only will be done if there is cancer and there are several effects that will be not very comfortable.Health Question & Answer

I think you mean should you be "sterilized". Hysterectomy would not be considered as a means to birth control in any normal situation. I think you need keyed up on the subject. Make an appointment with Family Planning asap.Health Question & Answer

you don't need to have a hysterectomy you want to get sterilised, not sure you would be old enough but on the other hand you have had 3 children so they may consider it Health Question & Answer

That's a very drastic measure to take just to avoid having more kids.
You could get your tubes tied or a much better option is to have your hubby have a vasectomy...it's a much simpler procedureHealth Question & Answer

doctors wouldn't give you a hysterectomy unless there was a medical reason the best they would do is sterilise you if you don't want more children Health Question & Answer

The doctor will not allow a hysterectomy just because you don't want more kids. All you can do is have your tubes tied.Health Question & Answer
