Please tell me about your IUD insertion experience!?!

Question: Please tell me about your IUD insertion experience!.?
I'm having Paraguard put in tomorrow (Tuesday) and I'm really nervous that it's going to hurt a lot to have it put in, or that I'll bleed like crazy for weeks or months afterwards.

Please tell me about your experience. How much did it hurt.? Did it take very long to get it in.? How did you feel the rest of the day.? Any weird stuff happen afterwards.?Health Question & Answer

I had mine put in on August 11th, and I was actually so nervous about it that I took a vicodin before the insertion, and it was still pretty uncomfortable, but hardly anything on the pain scale, but then I have had a baby, and if you haven't, then it will probably hurt worse for you. It only took a few minutes, not very long at all, the cramps afterwards hurt much more than the insertion, but I took vicodin for those and they went away, but if you don't have vicodin, Aleve should work really well and you are supposed to take the Aleve before you go in for the insertion. The cramps sucked for the rest of the day and some of the next day, and would pop up randomly (but not as severely) ever since, but they don't hurt too bad or for too long anymore. I have been spotting since I had it inserted, everyday, but I have not haad a period yet(this is related to me coming off the shot which had stopped my period) nothing weird happened afterwards other than I got really faint once we got home and my boyfriend took the baby for a walk so that I could lay down, and I was pretty much down the rest of the day. But it';s all worth it, those hormonal birth controls are all dangerous and risky and have stupid side effects that most women don't realize, so congratualtions on making the right decision in using a non hormonal method, that;s great really. You can expect irregular bleeding in the first six months to a year(that includes anything from constant spotting to having three heavy periods in two months to having a late period that's light followed two weeks later by a heavy one, really anything except hemmoorhaging, in which case you need to see your doctor immediatley). Anyway, good luck, and try to tough out the adjustment period because you made the right decision!Health Question & Answer
