I have had a smelly discharge for a while now, it's nothing out of the ordinary for me and it isn't thick or yellowish (sorry to much). My periods are really heavy and painful but when i am off my period i get a very uncomfortable feeling in my pelvic area and sometimes a throbbing pain on my right side. I am going for a smear tomorrow and i know the doctor said he wants to take a few samples and get them tested. Has anyone experienced these symptoms before, i am getting quite worried, and only sensible answers please.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like bacterial vaginosis, which is not a sexually transmitted infection, but occurs when the pH value of the vagina gets out of whack, and allows an overgrowth of certain bacteria. This causes an excess of smelly discharge, which often has a fishy offensive smell to it. It's often made worse by sex, and you may notice the smell more directly after sex. If left untreated for a while it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, which could be the cause of your pelvic pain. It's easily treated with a course of antibiotics.Health Question & Answer
Stop using tampons they cause this type of thing you are talking about especially if you do not hacnge them at least three times a day.
You could also have a pelvic infection caused by tampons that if left untreated could lead to infertility.
It's good that you are having this checked out and hopefully I'm wrong about the infection and that it is jsut a bad case of thrush which anyone can catch. But do heed my warning about tampons. I know that you feel scared, but the doctor will be able to help you wiht what he thinks is going on. It could possibly be an STI, but instead of getting yourself worried, let the doctor do his tests. It could just be as simple as a yeast infection or something like that. Don't jump to any conclusions before the doctor mentions it, or you could just really worry yourself.Health Question & Answer
i had something similar to this a few years ago but was too embarrassed to go to the doc`s. when i did finally go i had a smear and some samples sent off and it was only an infection a bit like thrush but higher up in the womb, its not passed on by sex and cannot be passed on so don't worry,(if it is the same as what i had)
a course of antibiotics did the trick but because of it i had to go for a smear 6 months later then a year later then a year after, just to make sure it was gone.

hi there! the best thing 2 do is go 2 ur nearest gum clinic.or ring ur doc and c if there's a sexual health clinic near by.u wont have 2 wait for ur results,u can get it that day if u wait.an u can get tabs etc.also there should b a gum at ur hospital,ring them up an ask them 2 put u through.they will look after u.xHealth Question & Answer

go to ur nearest gum clinic or as u said get the doctor to send some swab tests away.
