For the most part they're just a little awkward at first. A lot of girls are nervous the first time cause a stranger is going to be looking at places other people rarely see that close. Just keep in mind that your doctor sees it all day, everyday. They've seen and heard everything! That's not to say that there won't be some slight discomfort. However, it shouldn't be anything you won't be able to handle. Just try to relax as much as possible, and it'll be over before you know it.Health Question & Answer
Well, its awkward to be up in the chair with your legs apart like that. The doctor will insert the speculum and open it before they take the swab.
The test itself can hurt, but its generally only briefly and not badly. When they take the swab it often feels like a single throb of a menstrual cramp, because its actually touching your cervix. They shouldnt hurt! Its might be uncomfotable or you might feel a little pressure and translate that as pain. It can be awkward. Just be as calm and comfotable as possible. Hopefully you get a good dr too that can make you feel relaxed. also try talking to the dr or nurse in the room to distract yourselfHealth Question & Answer
Definitely not painful, but a bit uncomfortable. The more relaxed you are, the easier it is. And if the doc doesn't warm his/her hands and explain everything they are doing, complain. It's just rude. Health Question & Answer
