Prescriptions and insurance?!

Question: Prescriptions and insurance.?
I just got a prescription of birth control and I may or may not want yo use my insurance when I go to pay for the pill.
My question is twofold:
First of all, I am a college student (my school does not provide birth control for free like some others do) and I am on my parents' insurance. I do not have a relationship with them that involves discussing my sex life or really even my health. I don't want any prescription to show up on the insurance bill, regardless of whether it shows up by name. How does this work on the insurance statement.?
Second of all, is the discount from the copay significant.? How much does birth control tend to cost.? I go to school in New York City, if that helps. (No, I don't go to NYU.)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Planned Parenthood offers free or low cost birth control. They are also confidential, so your parents wouldn't know.

EDIT: My Nuvaring 3pack would cost $50, thankfully I get it free thru a health center program at my school. My friend gets her's for free from Planned Parenthood. (She's in the same boat- even under her parent's medical insurance, but doesn't want them to know sh'es on BC since she still lives with them)Health Question & Answer

Every insurance company is different. HIPAA provides that they can't release your health information without your knowledge, but your dad is the policy holder.

Call the Customer Service number on the card and ASK them what will happen. Will he get a statement.? Can it be avoided.? Get a name and write down the person and date for the call. If they say he'll get the info, you're sunk. If they say he won't, you should be ok, but if they screw up, sue.Health Question & Answer
