Very bad cramping... help!?!
Question: Very bad cramping... help!.?
Let me start by saying that about three weeks ago I had a Urinary Tract infection, I get them quite frequently... the doctor gave me a prescription, but I don't know if it worked as I had some urgency feelings over the last few weeks. I was due for my period this week and I have had on and off cramping for 5 days... I usually only cramp slightly the day before my period and the day my period begins... My period started today and I am having the worst cramps that I have had... I am unable to move, and when I start to slightly feel comfortable, the pain begins again. This is the worst pain I have had... and I am very scared. I've had my period for for 12 years now and have never felt this terrible before. I'm worried this could be something more... should I go to the hospital.? I don't currently have health insurance but, if something could be wrong, I'd rather go. Or, is there anything I can do at home.? I've taken midol... but it hasn't done anything yet. Help!Health Question & Answer

Severe period pains should always be investigated to check for a treatable cause. As a rough guide, if you've had severe period pain (known as dysmenorrhoea) since around the time your periods first started, it's less likely a particular cause will be found.
There are exceptions to this. Conditions such as endometriosis can sometimes cause severe pain from an early age (although the pain typically gets worse as the disease does more damage with each monthly cycle). Other causes include fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease and sometimes a narrowing of the cervix. Bear in mind, though, that period pains are rarely a sign of disease, especially in younger women.
If the pain interferes with your life, preventing you from working, going to school or coping with daily tasks, I would recommend you consult with a doctor/gynaecologist for further evaluation.

Take painkillers and try using a heat pad, this helps a lot when I have cramps. I wouldn't be too worried right now. If when your next period comes it is still this intense, then consider seeing a doctor. Health Question & Answer
