Your period can be very heavy the first time. It's perfectly normal. It may also last longer than normal. My first period lasted over a week and it was heavy for most of that time. For heavy periods I use Always or Stayfree long, overnight pads. They don't always work the best though for heavy periods. You should sleep with a doubled up towel and just lay on that. It helps for the leaks.
For cramps try taking Advil or Aleve. A warm bath or hot shower might help. You could try a heating pad or those ThermaCare pads that you can use anywhere. Some exercise might help with the cramping as well. Health Question & Answer

I know it sounds scary for the first time but try a tampon, if you put them in right you cant even feel them!
But I didnt try a tampon untill about a year.
Or just try overnight pads, they feel like diapers but it works!Health Question & Answer

Yes, it's normal, but it isn't pleasant. Actually, it could be slightly abnormal, but I'd wait for the next ones to see how things go. Usually these things straighten themselves out over time.

Ibuprofen (brand name Advil) is the best drug to use for period cramps. If you are 150 lbs or more, take 3 tablets, if you weigh less than 150 lbs, then take two tablets. Just skip the tylenol - it's crap.

You can also put a hot water bottle on your lower abdomen or your back, whichever aches worse.

My first period was like this - a totally miserable experience (i'm not going to enter a competition here, as it would minimize your pain, which you don't deserve), but it was actually worse - heavier bleeding, severe pain, and compounded by the fact that it all started on a 12 hour overnight train ride.

I don't know what to do about the leaking. They do make extra long nighttime pads, and you might try those. Nothing like being in pain, and then waking up and having to change your sheets and pjs. You could try wearing a tampon and a pad at the same time, something I've done in the past.

You do not have to use the thick kind if you don't want to. They actually don't work any better than the thin ones. Always are the best, and this is not something anyone should ever skimp on. The store brand is NOT the same. Skimp on baggies, or plastic wrap or something, but not pads and tampons. Buy name brands.Health Question & Answer

Well, first congratz you have your period. you are only using the heavy pads there are more absorbant ones that Always makes like overnight pads (orange wrapping) and maximum protection (red wrapping). I also just saw another kind of pad the came out with in a megazine it's supposed to be made especially for heavy periods it's called "Always Infinity", so you could also try that. You shouldn't have to change your pad every two hours. Try the heavier pads and if you leak after two hours you should go and see a doctor. Make sure you get the pads with wings. For pain you can try advil, and midol.
Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

Ask your parent if it's safe for you to have Motrin (some people are allergic).

If it's heavy at night get the always with wings they also have the super long overnight protection with wings. Don't worry it could be something like repositioning the pad when you put it on.

Tip: Peroxide is very cheap and if you pour it on the blood stain right away and wash it in cold water chances are the stain will not set.

I probably shouldn't tell you this but a little bit of chocolate or salty pretzels may help with cramping too. Use sparingly though or you'll feel even more bloated. Exercise when you can even if it's a walk
