It is not really about age as much as how safe hormonal birth control is, the younger you start taking birth control the longer you are using it thus increasing health risks associated with hormonal birth control.
In teens and pre-teens hormonal birth control should be avoided all together because the hormonal birth control suppresses normal menstrual cycles, during teens and pre-teens is exactly the time a girl needs to get to know her normal menstrual cycle in order to better understand her sexual health to care for it better in the long-term - for example a girl who knows her cycles will know if she has a vaginal infection or fertility problems more so than a girl who does not know her cycles.
Hormonal birth control should be a ladt option in birth control because the side-effects, particularly in supressing normal cycles in young women, far outweigh any positives. If a girl is sexually active then she should be responsible enough to firstly wait until she is old enough to be sexually active, but then also old enough to be responsible about sex and her body by using condoms as well as a less extreme form of birth control than the pill. I will agree when you become sexually active you can go on birth control pills and there is side effects to them and there is one called Yaz and Yazmin there side effects is spotting in between periods. When you spot try not to freak out like I did that is normal. also, go to OB/GYN if side effects occur. My OB/GYN had to increase my birth control pills called Yaz because I have been spotting after my period.

just when ever your sexually active. but you can also take the 3 month needle which is just as good. also of birth control it's bad to take if you smoke or over the age 40.? or maybe it was 50.? ohh and you have to remember,, there are side affects to birth control also.Health Question & Answer
