Taking birth control continuously?!

Question: Taking birth control continuously.?
Ok, so I briefly read about someone doing this, but I want other opinions about it. Whether you've done, or would do it. If you've talked to your doctor, what did they say.?

Is there any harm in taking B.C. pills (specifically Cyclessa) continuously.? Meaning skipping the sugar pill and going straight into a new pack.?

I think I have a good enough reason to do this. I get severe cramps which stop me from going to class and I'm worried about having a job. When I'm cramping I need to take lots of ibuprofen and have a heating pad around and nap. I've tried going to class while cramping and I couldn't focus and started crying from the pain.

I'm worried about getting a job and having to miss days because of my period.

So would you say it's ok to do this.? There's already other alternatives that stop your period..so would taking Cyclessa continuously be the same.?

Thanks. Oh, and I prefer pills, and I only have access to Cyclessa (from Planned Parenthood).Health Question & Answer

I don't know abouy Cyclessa, but there are a couple of brands of pills (Seasonale is one) that do what you're doing, they give you 3 months of straight active pills then you take the ones that allow your period to start. Years before these came out, however, I started doing exactly what you discuss. (After I did a LOT of research on the issue. ) Did it for years, No problems, health's fine. Would continue doing it if the companies hadn't caught up with the idea. Since they now came already packaged in right quantities, it's more convenient. I understand that 6 month and once a year packs are in the works but I haven't checked cuz I just break open a new pack and keep going til it's a convenientt time, then I take the sugar pills.Health Question & Answer

Anything that interferes with the body's natural process is bad, in my opinion.

There are many things you can do to help reduce or even avoid cramping altogether. The easiest and most obvious is to get your abdominals in shape. The tighter your abs, the less likely you are to cramp.

By stopping your period, you run the risk of having increased iron levels because you're not menstruating.

It's a period, not an illness.Health Question & Answer

As in continue taking pills without taking the 7 day break.? No I don't recommend that. If you have horrible cramps the doctor can give you an anti-inflammatory which really does wonders for cramps. I had horrible cramps and saw a doctor who gave me neproxin. Took it at the beginning of the pain and the pain was gone. I went from missing two days of school/work to missing none.Health Question & Answer

No, that is not safe at all. The sugar pill is necessary (well, you don't hactually have to take it, but it helps keep track of the days and the routine of a daily pill). Your body needs that week to have a normal period. If you go right into the next pack and skip that week, you will seriuosly mess up your body. Take over the counter PMS meds if you need to. Missing work for your period.? Most women can manage, but talk to your doc it it's that severe...There are many different pills they can presctibe if this one doesn't ease your period.Health Question & Answer
