Is it unhealthy for a 14 year old girl who is 5'9" and who dances and runs XC to weigh 114?!

Question: Is it unhealthy for a 14 year old girl who is 5'9" and who dances and runs XC to weigh 114.?
Answers:
BMI charts tend to be more inaccurate in regards to sports-people etc, but that would usually be regarded as underweight on a BMI chart.

I'd want to be careful as especially during puberty, your body needs the extra fat reserves in order to fuel growth - more than a grown woman. The exercise is great, but keep diet and other things in balance.
At 5'9", they're not going to look like one of the tiny gymnasts who get permanently stunted, but if body-fat percentage looks too low, other aspects of development, including future fertility can be affected.

Don't worry too much, and no, I'm not a Doctor, but maybe just talk to an actual Dr, or Nutritionist, or go to a gym get a proper bodyfat percentage assessment done, and see where you/they are. Add a little to what the healthy range is to account for puberty.

Edited to add:
Other posters - please read the question more carefully and check out a BMI chart.? The question is *not* is she too fat.
114 for 5'9" is reasonably underweight. If they get a lot of exercise, then muscle weighs more than fat, so they could be even further underweight versus the supplies of fat they *need* for growth during puberty.
Like I was saying, before worrying, actually get a bodyfat index done, or talk to a Dr.

But saying that's not too fat - well, duh!Health Question & Answer

Seems like you're on the slim side. I'm not looking at a growth chart or height and weight chart but it seems that 140 is about the right average weight. I would go by how you think you look - not how much you weigh. If you have a lot of ppl telling you that you're underweight, think about how you eat. Do you have 3 healthy meals w/ a variety of foods a day/drink plenty of fluids/snack a little in the late afternoon just to keep your blood sugar up for all the exercise you do and to keep your alertness up.?
Since you're so active, your body needs more calories for fuel. Your muscles need sugar to run on and if they don't have sugar, they will use protein, carbs and fiber. Sugar is the best fuel for them, though. also, be sure to keep up your fluids.Health Question & Answer

If you eat normal sized meals and don't starve yourself, then it is perfectly fine, you are active and healthy.. its only unhealthy if you are anorexic or bullemic. some people are just naturally very thin, but they eat a lot of food. It all depends on ur metabolism. But like I said, some think that because they are skinny, means they don't run the risk of cancer, heart disease, etc, you need to eat healthy, and if your body is lacking nutrients, you run the risk of getting more diseases than someone who is a little heavier. So take care of yourself, if you eat, then keep up what you're doing because obviously you're doing something right. Health Question & Answer

katief is dumb .. Your weight is higher because of your height. Your tall .. so your weight is perfectly fine. You shouldn't even be concerned with this at all. Even people who have a little meat on their bones are healthy. Overweight is when you have fat rolls. Don't obsess about this, girls today are so infatuated with their weight that they go to great unhealthy lengths to change it.. be carefulHealth Question & Answer

Not healthy. My friend is an average weight of a 12 year old, she is 5'1, weighs 110. She is perfectly in shape. Maybe you should try and put some on some pounds...not a lot.
Your not unhealthy necessarily, just could be a bit healthier I guess.

But don't worry! Your not bad! Its okay!
