Help. doctors don't believe i have a yeast infection?!

Question: Help. doctors don't believe i have a yeast infection.?
i took doxycycline for acne roscea to help with my blepharitis. i also took cortisteriods for inflammation. biggest mistake of my LIFE! after a month of doxycycline i was getting weird side effects like i was becoming way sensitive to caffeine and my throat started getting sore and my voice became all raspy like and i started having symptoms of a UTI, peeing more often and stuff. so i stopped taking it.
i read up online and i felt sure i had a yeast infection, so i tried to do the yeast diet and stay away from the FDA approved drugs because they CAUSED the problem in the first place!

anyways after a month of doing the yeast diet, my pain would come and go... i would have good days and bad days.
i caved in and went to the doctor b/c my mom said it seemed like i just had a UTI. anyways i went there , got bactrim, another antibiotic. after bactrim i started getting really itchy and tired. my symptoms stayed the same. and then i came back and got another antibiotic. I just finished it and i feel EXHAUSTED and i cannot concentrate and i cannot multi-task anymore...i totally dont feel like myself and i lost my boyfriend of 2 years because he was scared to watch me go through this. i'm losing weight quick liike 15 pounds in 3 weeks. im really stressed out because of school too. i cannot eliminate that stress.
i feel really miserable.
i got tested for STDs and i got a pap smear, tests came back negative.
anyways i really believe i have a yeast infection. im scared that the medicine they'll give me will make me worse...
im about to give up on lifeHealth Question & Answer

You probably did initially have a adverse reaction to the doxycycline and should have initially consulted your doctor about the symptoms.

Did you take prednisone.? I ask because it's the most common corticosteroid prescribed. Did you stop taking your corticosteroid suddenly.?

There is such a thing called prednisone withdrawal. I ask because a doctor is supposed to gradually taper your dosage to get you off of prednisone. You're never supposed to quit taking it cold turkey. Stopping the medication suddenly causes symptoms like severe fatigue and body aches which sounds like what you are experiencing. This can lasts for several weeks or several months.

It sounds like you quit taking your corticosteroid suddenly when you stopped taking the doxycycline and doing so caused all of these symptoms of withdrawal. I don't think you are hypochondriac but I do think you need to go back to the doctor and ask them if this is a possibility. For someone who was just taking meds for blepharitis then all of sudden started experiencing these symptoms, that's not normal.

Don't give up on the medical system, there are doctors out there who have the "God" complex and don't want to hear your opinion. Doctors like that are the ones you have to worry about. Get yourself another family doctor if you can and explain your symptoms. If you have a legitimate concern then they should listen and it sounds like you have a legitimate concern.

I can't give too much advice in the love dept (your boyfriend) but I do hope you get to feeling better soon. Life is too short to have to live so miserably.

This is to Angie's answer: When you exaggerate symptoms in the Emergency Room you selfishly take valuable time and resources from the hospital where your are being seen. That time could be used for the doctor to help someone with a life-saving diagnosis or treatment. Just wanted to point that out, you may not have thought that comment through.Health Question & Answer

did you try drinking cranberry juice (or cranberry in pill form) it helps with the symptoms in a few days. Acupuncture helps too!Health Question & Answer

doxycycline is an antibioctic. any antibioctic can give women yeast infections. i also take doxycycline for my acne. you should use Rephresh (find it by the tampons and pads in the store) to keep your ph balance regular if your going to take doxycycline. also talk to a different doctor and get your yeast infection checked out and cleared up. i take Diflucan, its just one pill and yeast infection is gone.Health Question & Answer

It seems that a yeast infection isn't your problem, especially since the doctors who tested you are specialists and a yeast infection is easy to spot visually (plus a test for yeast would rule that out). Maybe you are itching/irritated "down there." It happens sometimes. Try some OTC hydrocortizone cream (externally). It should soothe and cool the area.

Honestly, though, I would think you're experiencing signs of depression, and/or based on your first comments, it seems like you're a bit of a hypochondriac.

I think you should see a doctor (internist, psychologist) and discuss the feelings you have about not feeling like yourself, not being able to concentrate, being stressed out, feeling miserable, and feeling "about to give up on life."

Take a few steps back and realize you need to get help for your health and well-being.Health Question & Answer

Seems like you are hypersensitive to medicine. The doctors think that I am crazy sometimes butI had to learn my body. I felt the same way scared that they would make me immediately develope allergie symptoms. When I am allergic to a medicine such as penicillin or anything with sulfur in I immediately start peeing often. i went to the doctor and got tested for STD's and a UTI. Try something natural for your yeast like AZO yeast and maybe a 1 day vagistat treatment. I hope you get better.Health Question & Answer

Well 1st of all...life is to valuable for you to give up for something like this. I honestelly think is nothing major and i do believe what your symptoms are, I personally dont trust many doctors and many are just awesome..anyhow..about your dumb *** boyfriend leaving you because he couldnt bare seeing you going thru this my advice to u is you are farrrrr better off WITHOUT a LOSER like him because i dont know how old you are but if he took off now in times like this which i honestelly dont think is a major major issue and no major issue should make you want to stop your life for..my opinion at least....but yes better that he left now and not later in your life when you 2 were together for a long time meaning more than 10-20 years and for you to waste so many years with a loser like him so do me a favor because believe me it wil happen....when you get and feel better lift your spirit and let him know or just show him that you are better off without him and by no means you would ever consider going back with him cause believe me he will try...ha...so yes my other advice to you is get some blood draw sometimes this could help determine the cause, and if this does not work you will have to go to the emergency room and exagarate things a little too much so this way they could do different kind of test and pin point what in realaty is makin you feel this way. I wish you the best and you will be the best remember this 2 shall pass...God Bless you!Health Question & Answer

There are many things that could be going on but going online then going to your doc with a self-diagnosis is about the quickest way to not be taken seriously by your doctor. The reason being is that when you put your symptoms into a search engine of any sort, the first hits are usually the most controversial, extreme, and sometimes the most unlikely explanations.

If your yeast tests came back negative, then you probably don't have a yeast infection. You have probable been reading up on systemic candidiasis when the yeast infection (usually candida albicans) becomes systemic. This is usually an opportunistic infection seen mainly in people whos immune system is in extreme disarray such as HIV patients. If you really want to be sure, who might want to find a doctor who would agree to do a stool sample to see there is yeast in the digestive tract, but be prepared to pay out of pocket as insurance likely will not cover it.

Note that all of the symptoms you described can be caused by, and definitely aggravated by stress, anxiety and depression. This is why the doctors might be leaning more toward a psychosomatic explanation. I would be sure to find a doctor whom who trust and who listens to you and be prepared to compromise! There are reasons why they do certain tests before they do other tests.

In summary, don't self-diagnose; don't go loading yourself up with "natural herbal supplements' of which some have more side affects than medications, stay calm and communicate with a doctor that you trust.Health Question & Answer

They ruled out both yeast and bacteria vaginosis.? Have you told them exactly where you are itching.? I'm assuming it's not inside your vagina...perhaps on the outside.? I am thinking you could have something called "Vulvodynia" which literally means, "painful vulvar" it is hard for doctors to diagnose. It makes you feel itchy and can even cause you to look red and swollen down there. Another thing it can do is cause sharp pains in your vagina.

I don't know, I could get a second opinion and tell them what you think is going on. It may not be a yeast infection, it may be something that they are over-looking.

Good luck to you, I hope you figure out what is going on! I hope I was able to help you!Health Question & Answer
