My girlfriend was in the hospital the other day. She had blood taken, and they took about four tube things. We went to get her X-ray/MRI done. We were the only ones there, but we had to wait for like almost 10 minutes.? Were they doing some sort of test on her blood before hand.? She is 17, and they didn't ask her if she was pregnant.Health Question & Answer

MRI's take a lot of preparation. The people doing the scan have to make sure they've removed all their metal objects, badges, etc. They have to be sure the equipment is ready. They have to clean the MRI scanner between patients. They have to go over the pre-MRI checklist to verify that it's safe for the patient to have the MRI. The technician might have to use the restroom first since s/he is going to be tied up in there for a long time. So 10 minutes isn't very long to wait.
They're not going to take the woman's word for it that she's not pregnant; she could be pregnant and not know it. So certainly they'd test her blood first to be sure she's not. That alone could explain the delay.Health Question & Answer

10 min is not too long to wait.They send blood to the lab for testing. Testing for being pregnant uses different test, and they don1t do it routinely Health Question & Answer
