Is there really an age requirement to get your tubes tied?!
Question: Is there really an age requirement to get your tubes tied.?
I called the doctor's office today because I have decided to do this and the nurse said she believes that you have to be 30 to have this procedure done - is that true do you HAVE to be 30 or do they just recommend that. I have my reasons of why I need this done ... please answer <3 I can't wait to hear what the doctor tells me!Health Question & Answer
Answers:
There's no legal requirement.
However most doctors will not perform the procedure before the age of 30 (and sometimes before the age of 35) because most women will change their mind about having another child (or starting a family in the first place) -- usually by the time they turn 35. Reversal procedures are expensive (and not every insurance company will pay for them), they are NOT guaranteed (only about 40% succeed), and after the reversal and subsequent pregnancy, many women want their fertility altered AGAIN!Health Question & Answer

No age requirement. That particular office may require you to be 30, but there is no legal requirement. I've plenty of friends who've done it before 30. I do believe that if you are married your spouse does have to agree to the procedure also; I know I had to sign a consent form when my husband had his vasectomy (at age 25). Health Question & Answer
