Question: My 1st appointment with Gyno tomorrow. Scared!.?
Im 20 and I have never been to a gynecologist. My family Dr seemed upset by this so she set me up an appointment. She said with cervical/ovarian cancer running in my family I will need a pap smear and an exam. She didnt explain anything about it though and Ive never had it done. What should I expect. I feel so uncomfortable about going. Will the Dr also do a breast exam.?
One other question and another reason I have to go to the Gyno. I have an ovarian cyst thats causing me pain (ultrasound confirmed). The Dr said its the size of a softball, Ive had it for almost a month now. I know that most Drs will want to start me on birth control pills. I have tried them in the past. They made me suicidal. Plus me and the hubby are TTC so birth control is out of the question. What else would the Gyno do to help with the cyst.

Paps and exams aren't nearly as exciting as some people would have you believe. The people who say it's horrible are referring to their imagination- it's all in their head.
The pap and exam only take a few minutes. First, they'll have you take off the clothes on the lower half of your body (they'll leave the room), and lay on the table. Your feet will be put on the stir-ups, and you'll probably have a paper sheet over your legs for privacy from anyone but your gyno. The gyno will insert a rounded plastic object (i think it's called a speculum.?), which shouldn't hurt at all, and then he or she will swab the vaginal tissue through the speculum (this might feel a little odd, but not painful). The speculum is removed, and the pap part is done.
I don't remember much about the exams, but they are even less exciting than the pap... I wouldn't worry about it. And your gyno will probably not do a breast exam unless you request one.
Without birth control, you'll likely have to either wait for the cyst to go away on its own, or have it surgically removed.

its not bad the scariest part is just thinking about a stranger look down there they will do a breast exam and teach you how to do it your self youll be fine its really not that bad Health Question & Answer

Everyone's nervous about their first exam, but it's really not that bad. Yes, they'll probably do a breast exam also. You'll probably get completely undressed and put on a gown. They usually do the breast exam first. Then, you'll put your feet up in stirrups while they do the pelvic exam. First, they'll do a speculum exam and take a pap test. After they remove the speculum, the doctor will insert a few fingers in your vagina while she feels your lower abdomen. It's over very quickly. I'm not sure what they'll do for the cyst.
