Please help. my breasts really hurt ?!

Question: Please help. my breasts really hurt .?
Hi,
Usually i get very painful breasts during ovulation and onto my period. however this month my breasts are hurting all of the time to the point where it even hurts to run up the stairs too quickly and wear a bra comfortably.
the pain is also in a different place: instead of it being down the side and underneath (like it usually is), it is ALL OVER, especially the top of the breast too. my nipples are not unusually tender or sensitive to the touch.
I am a 30FF (UK sizing) and am 20 years old. i really dont think that this is a hormonal problem but i cant be sure. i recently (three weeks ago) switched from being on the contraceptive pill to the contraceptive patch, however the hormones that are getting released into my body are exactly the same on the patch as they were in the pill.
i am planning on making a trip to the doctors to enquire about this too, but was just wondering if anyone has a similar problem or knows what it could be.? also, what could i do to reduce the pain at all.?
any answers are much appreciated.
thank you,
Nell

PS i've also had a lot of stomach pains over the past 10 days. these are most definitely stomach pains and not abdominal cramps. not sure if thats just an illness or whether it could be related in some way.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Tender breasts are a common PMS symptom. It's called Cyclical mastalgia and can be felt all over your breast, even near your armpit. This occurs in the second half of the monthly cycle, and is often worse in the days just before a period. Symptoms usually go once you actually get your period. It isn't an indication of any breast or hormone abnormality. It just happens due to the hormone changes that occur each month.

Non-cyclical breast pain is where the pain is not related to periods. If your breasts are tender at all times of your cycle, then see your GP for a check up.

Some women claim Evening primrose oil is very helpful or NSAIDs like Ibuprofen if no GI issue sometimes helps. Many women say cutting out caffeine helps too. Wearing a good support bra will help. Failing all that, if your breasts really are painful, drugs like danazol and bromocriptine etc which block hormones and reduce the level of oestrogen might help. This really should be a last resort option.

It could just be because you have changed contraceptives, sometimes they can cause hormonal symptoms. If symptoms persist, have a chat with your GP.Health Question & Answer
