To me it sounds like what I have. It's called menorrhagia and it pretty much means that a woman has long and heavy periods.
Using birth control specifically for the purpose of making your period easier to deal with is a good idea.

Getting on birth control pills really help periods. BC makes your periods lighter, shorter and sometimes cramp-free. If you don't want to get on the pill, you can try Midol or Pamprin for the cramps but nothing else will make you bleed less or for a shorter amount of time.Health Question & Answer
