Females: Is this a common feminine problem?!

Question: Females: Is this a common feminine problem.?
I'm suffering with a water infection and thrush at the same time. I've had them both together before. Is this quite common.? I went to the doctor and got prescribed a pill for the thrush and an antibiotic for the water infection... Hmmm.. I did change my body wash so maybe that's started things up.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I think that you are right in thinking that the new soap disagrees with you.
That can in fact be the cause of both infections, and by the way, Thrush can and probably in your case did cause the UTI also.

You don't need to use soap to clean your vagina/vulva. Just water is enough. Using soap or a body wash can irritate the skin, upset the normal mix of bacteria and make you more likely to get thrush. Another cause of thrush is tight clothing, for example tight jeans or tights (pantyhose) because they don't allow the area to ventilate.
G-strings/thongs can also kind this type of problem because they transmit germs from your anus to your vagina and urethra and may lead to thrush, bacterial vaginosis and water infections.
Another thing to remember is when you use the toilet to always wipe from front to back.
Antibiotics can give you thrush as they kill the normal bacteria that lives on your skin and allowes the fungus to take hold.
If you are very sore then you may find that bathing in salt water can help - literally put a tablespoon of salt in your bath. Health Question & Answer

Unless we are talking about post antibiotic thrush, which so common as to be inevitable in some women, the 2 conditions are not otherwise commonly linked. However there is no doubt that the soreness and irritation of thrush can mimic most of the symptoms of a UTI, pain, burning and frequency, thus the very inexperienced GP might be tempted to assume that there is a concomitant UTI and mistreat accordingly.Health Question & Answer

Do you mean a bladder infection.? It's not really a common thing for these things to reoccur if you are taking precautions to prevent them. Use a proper feminine wash, that is gynecologist approved, for washing, avoid talcs and scented sprays down there, and drink lots of water. Talk to your doctor about what else you can do. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Its pretty common i would say. I have problems with water infections, there so painful. Are you on the contraceptive pill.? Sometimes that can be an influence.

I always try and drink natural cranberry juice, plenty of water and eat natural yoghurt.
