Has anyone had an abnormal pap smear?!
Question: Has anyone had an abnormal pap smear.?
I just found out my routine pap smear came back 'mildly abnormal with some pre-cancerous cells'. My dr wants to do more tests but that appointment isn't until two weeks.
Has anyone had an abnormal pap.? What happened.? Was it a false alarm, were you treated and if yes how.?
Please, let me know, I've got two weeks to sit and worry hereHealth Question & Answer

You will most likely need a biopsy of your cervix... a little uncomfortable, kind of like having a strong period paid. Depending on the results of the biopsy you may need laser treatment to remove the pre-cancerous cells. This is a very routine procedure and takes no longer than 10 minutes. The worst part about it is having a needle to make you numb, after that it's mostly just boring having to wait!
Following treatment you will need to have pap smears every 6 months until you have I think a minimum of 3 clear results.
An abnormal pap result does not simply mean you have HPV. An abnormal Pap smear may indicate any of the following:
*An infection or an inflammation
*Herpes
*Trichomoniasis
*Recent sexual activity
*HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) This is also called genital warts (up to 60% of women may carry this virus on their cervix, genital area, or skin and are completely unaware of it).
*Dysplasia (abnormal cells that can be pre-cancerous)Health Question & Answer

You have HPV. It will clear up in 1 year on it's own. A few friends had it. They are fine now. Use protection and inform your partner.Health Question & Answer
