Is there more of a risk for women to give blood than for men.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
There's no extra risk from giving blood during your period. You really bleed very little during menstruation, compared to what you donate.

They check your quantity of red blood cells before they begin drawing the pint of blood. If you do not have enough (possibly due to menstruation), you may become anemic, so they will refuse to draw the pint.

It is slightly more of a risk for women to give blood, but only because they tend to be smaller (and therefore have less blood, overall).

It is not a risky procedure, though. The worst that is likely to happen is that you will get dizzy or faint.Health Question & Answer

There should be no problem. Menstrual blood doesn't come out of a vain, it is the tissue that builds up in your vagina during your cycle so that the area is protected for when you get pregnant. The tissue comes out in the form of blood, it isn't from your vains.

I'm not sure about about the risk being more for woemn than men, but there shouldn't be one.Health Question & Answer

Women generally have less blood than men just because of having their period. There is no risk of donating blood while on your period as long as you weigh enough and such.Health Question & Answer
