I think it can depend on the type of pill you are taking. The mini pill is progesterone only and you have to be careful with that one to stick to the guidelines or it is ineffective. If it is the combined pill, there are still many grades. Some have the same kind of hormone all the way through and are low dose, characterised by the same colour all the way through till the sugar pills. Then you have other brands which have different colour pills that go in stages (white, brown, yellow etc). If you have one that has different colours, your body might just be gearing up for your period with some break through bleeding. If this is still occurring in a couple more months I would go back to your Doctor, you may need to try another brand as this one may not be as compatible for you as a different one.Health Question & Answer

It's called breakthrough bleeding (what you are experiencing). You will still most likely get your regular period during the sugar pill week. Breakthrough bleeding sometimes happens during the first 3-6 months of starting b/c pills.Health Question & Answer
