I was 11 years old when i started my period, and i thought the same thing that you did. It is completly normal what you are going through. Day 2-3 or sometimes 4 are usually pretty heavy, and if you like to stay feeling clean you are going to be changing a pad every 20 minutes.
There is something that will slow down the flow of blood temorarily and help with cramps, but you should not over do it because it can kill your liver if you do. You can take 600 mg of ibruprofin for the cramps you are getting and it will also help reduce the inflamation going on in your uterus.... That is 3 ibruprofin pills... and if you are not 12 years old, don't do it, if you weigh less than 110 lbs, don't do it. If you are 12 or older and u weigh 110 then it is ok to take 600 mg as long as you are not allergic to it, and as long as you only take it at that dosage once a day! If all else fails, then have mom make you an appointment to see the gyno. If you are sexually active you need to go anywase!
Health Question & Answer

No, hon, there is nothing you can do, but the second day is usually the worst. It should slow down after today and be gone in about three more, if normal. Sometimes birth control pills will shorten periods and lessen the flow, but you are probably too young for that. They are recommended for young girls that have periods that last for weeks.

Hope you feel better.Health Question & Answer

There's nothing that you can do to change the way that it is. If you want a period that's slightly lighter and shorter though you can ask your mom to get you some birth control.
And know that you're not the only one out there like this. I have the same issue as you. Sometimes I even refuse to go to school because of it. You just have to learn to deal with it. Eventually your cycle should even out though, since you've just had your first one.Health Question & Answer

First periods could be unusual and intensive - just be patient, try to sleep more, reduce physical exercises, not be stressed because it could increase the bleeding - read below about very intensive menstrual flowHealth Question & Answer

okayy you might just have a heavy flow which means alot of blood comes out. you should buy a different kind of pads. on the box it'll say for heavy flow. you should try those. hope that helps : )Health Question & Answer

dont worry. i felt exactley the same and i used so many pads that it wasnt even funny. yep it does drip like that. because its ur first it isnt going ot be regular for a while. so thats why its majorly heavy. make sure u sleep with a towel under ur butt at night or u'll leak on ur bed. thats what happened to me it was pretty embarassing.
u should get always i forget what the name is but i know its the long and thick kind in a mint green wrapping paper thing. they're so comferatable and absorbant. they feel like a mega diaper at first but after awhile they work perfectly. ur not alone.

u can email me if u want to know more or if ur concerned about anything else about it.
