I have my period...should i go swimming?!

Question: I have my period...should i go swimming.?
I got my period yesterday, it came at such an unexpected time because i normally get it in the middle of the month. Anyways...since its in the begining, my flow is kinda heavy. i have swimming lessons later today. I'm considering to use a tampon, but my mom doesn't wanna let me. When I ask her why not she says that the hole I stick it in isn't big enough -.-".

I really want to go to my swimming lesson, and i can't miss it because I already missed it once. If i miss two classes they kick me out. I still have 3 more classes to go.

could i just not wear a tampon, and go into the pool.? would i still bleed, cuz when i take a shower the bleeding usually stops.

should i use a tampon.? ive never used one before...so im kinda scared. how do u even get them up.?

is my mom right.? is it too small to shove one up there.? I'm 16 years old, and i've had my period for two years now.

if i use tampons, which brand do u recommand, and what type should i use if i'm a first time user.? Health Question & Answer

Use a tampon :)
The hole is NOT too small at all, tampons aren't that big don't worry!

My favorite, favorite kind is playtex gentle glide, although anything with a plastic applicator can work just as well. Just remember plastic! Cardboard, especially if it's your first time using one, can hurt!
I don't usually like Tampax Pearl, even though it's plastic, because it sometimes hurts a little when I'm taking it out. Other than that though, it's fine.

If youre worried about the size, they do make "slimfits" (not sure which brand exactly) that are great for first time users because they're not as big as regular kinds.

Basically, you sit on the toilet, spread your legs, and ease it inside. Angle it towards your lower back, since it doesn't go straight upwards. Your fingers should be on the grippy parts of the applicator and once your fingers touch the opening of your vagina, push the actual tampon in and throw the applicator out.
(There are good instructions inside every box)

You can't feel it inside if it's in properly.
Make sure it's all the way in though, or it will be really uncomfortable. That was the main problem I had when I started using tampons because I was too scared I would push them in too far that I didn't push them in far enough, and it hurt every time I sit down.

It's okay though, there's pretty much no way for it to go in too far. You'll always be able to pull it back out.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

You may or may not bleed in the water. It depends on how heavy your flow is. I wouldn't risk the embarrassment. You're the only one who can decide if you want to disobey your mom or not. However, if you decide to use a tampon they make some called "slim" or "junior" depending on the brand. They're really small so you should be fine. You probably won't even notice it's there.Health Question & Answer

ok well you could always just go in without one
for some reason, the flow stops in water, mostly cold water
im 15 and i've been using tampons for 2 years, probably started using them 3 months after i first got my period
when you get your period, the hole opens and gets bigger, but after, it just goes back
im not sure why haha
but i think your old enough to use tampons
i use tampax pearl and they work for me[:
Health Question & Answer

Using a tampon for your swimming will be fine. If this is your first time though you may feel a little uncomfortable with the circumstance.

Your "hole" is definitely not too small, its made to stretch. The tampon has instructions on it. Anyone will do, a rounded tip is probably best. You may want to try putting some vaseline on the tip to make insertion easier.

yea.. try a tampon.. ive never tried it before but it work or you can do it ho wi do it take off your pad and get in the water but you have to keep your stomach in water at all times so it can go away after a while you can have your stomach out of the water.. i hope this helped.. i have told this to a lot of people and it worksHealth Question & Answer

1. It is your personal choice. Don't let your mom make your decisions for you.

2. Tampons are best for swimming although pads are doable.

3. You are old enough and you've had your period for long enough that you should have no trouble getting it in. You're not too small. LOL

4. Playtex Sport

What i do when that happens is, i wear a pad in my swim suit.

DON'T! omg my friend was wearing a HUGE tampon while she was on a normal flow and about 3mins after she got in the water she had to sprint out cause i saw blood in the water !!!!! tell the trainer wats going on and he/she will most likly say it's ok don't worrry... and it's not to small it's just 'tight' b/c you haven't been using a tampon the first time you put one in try the smallest if thats to small try the next size up ... and to get them in there it has directions oh and DON'T us cardboard those hurt get the plastic onesHealth Question & Answer

Well I think you should talk to your mom about this but I will give you some advice anyways. Your mom is wrong, the hole is not too small I used tampons when I was 12 and I have friends that used them since they were young as well. The bleeding will not halt just because you are in water so if you are going to go swimming you must wear a tampon. I use the brand Tampax and I find that they work well. Again, I think you should discuss this further with your mom and explain your side.

Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer

First, DEFINITELY don't go in the pool without a tampon, especially if you said your flow is heavy! This could be quite embarrassing.

Your mother may just not want you to use a tampon because she doesn't want you sticking things up there at all. That's how my family was.

If you do use a tampon, my personal favorite are tampax pearle, because they have very smooth plastic applicators. Other tampons may have rigid cardboard applicators and may hurt to try and shove it up there for the first time. Just be careful the angle you put it in at, go slow because it doesn't just go straight in. Health Question & Answer

youre mom is NOT right. you dont lose your virginity when you use a tampon. when i first used tampons i was a virgin.. the whole is big enough ;) you should definitely use a tampon to get into the pool. that could be embarrassing!when you buy a pack of tampon there are directions that show you how. the best brand is playtex sport. just make sure you dont get cardboard ones! they hurt like a *****. my one piece of advice about putting them in is make sure you put it in deep enough!! wooo it hurts when you dont.Health Question & Answer
