Answers:
Is it a musky smell or is it foul.? There is a difference. This should help you decide. Oh, and do NOT douche.

Once you start puberty a white and/or clear discharge is normal. The vagina is self-cleaning. This same discharge increases the closer you get to ovulation and when you are sexually aroused. Trust me, you don't ever want it to go away. You will also have your own scent - musk like - and smell stronger to you than to others.

Different Types of Discharge:

White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your vagina. Old blood looks brown.

Spotting Blood/Brown Discharge: This may occur when you are ovulating/mid-cycle.

Different types of infections:

Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva

Signs of trichomoniasis
A watery, yellowish or greenish bubbly discharge
An unpleasant odor
Pain and itching when urinating
Most apparent after your period

Health Question & Answer

For starters, see your doctor. You could have an underlying infection, or it could simply be something in your diet. If you get a clean bill of health from your doctor, there's a couple of things you can do. Go to the feminine hygiene section of your store and find some products to help your situation. Like a feminine spray or deodorant, or a powder. There are also feminine wipes you can use. There are actually a lot of things out there. Just keep looking or trying until you find what works for you. Health Question & Answer

NO DON'T DOUCHE!
There are a couple of possible problems that come to mind:
1. you are possibly over-sensitive to or overly-critical of the odor
2. Vaginosis, which is not treatable with yeast medications. It is treatable with anti-biotics by the doctor. The most frequent symptom is a fishy odor.

Don't be embarassed. I went to the doctor for odor and he gave me an exam and totally "sniffed". He did not smell anything bad or unusual. He tested me for bacteria and diseases just because I was there and in case I was right. The tests were negative. He thought it was due to me having a good sense of smell and detecting hormonal changes. He was right, the odor totally went away.
My sister is an Obgyn and sees TONS of ladies with this question. It is a good question.Health Question & Answer

Do you live in a hot climate.? Here in FL we have something we call swamp @ss, which basically refers to how gross everyone gets after walking around in the heat.

Vaginas have their own natural smell. If you don't have an infection, then you just need to wash a bit more often. And this shouldn't require washing inside, just wash the outer area with water, and a mild soap if you want (they make ones just for this, called feminine wash). Washing at least once, but preferably a few times a day, will help.

However, if it smells fishy - not like tuna, but like an actual fish - then you DO have an infection called bacterial vaginosis. If washing frequently isn't helping, then you should see a doctor.Health Question & Answer
