I am on the Birth Control DEPO Shot! What do you think of it?!

Question: I am on the Birth Control DEPO Shot! What do you think of it.?
I love not having periods! My periods use to last 2 weeks at a time and then off a week and then back on it for 2 weeks again. I had the worst cramps and horrible mood swings as well. Since the shot, I love it! But I am worried about the Osteoporosis but I do take the calcium pills like I am suppose to. But I also worry I might end up getting blood clots.? But as far as how I feel on it now from back when I didn't take it, I am very happy. Does anyone know anything I might need to know about the Depo Shot.?Health Question & Answer

I HATED that thing, I think it is poison. I did not gain any weight on it, but I know of many many women who blew up on it. What I did experience, to me, made weight gain seem like the best side effect I could have had. I never had a period on it(I was on this crap for a full year) but I spotted constantly. And the thing that sucked about not having a period was that I never had anyway to know I wasn't pregnant, I took I pregnancy test every month because of that. Anyway, it also KILLED my sex drive, gave me headaches all day, every single day for a year, made me VERY irritable, depressed and gave me awful mood swings. I hated every moment of it, so yeah, look out for that crap. Some women love it though, and if you find that it really helps you out and that it's great for you, then it's great for you. If it doesn't cause many crappy side effects, I would stick with that. I liked how convenient it was, wish I could have had a great experience with it like you have, but it just did not work out for me in any way. So if I were you and liked it that much, I wouldn't risk swicthing to something else. It can take up to a year after coming off it for you cycles to return to normal and for you to be fertile again as well. Take a calcium supplement every day and you'll be fine. I was always worried about blood clots on it too, but apparently, because it contains progestin only, it is less likely than the combined methods to cause blood clots. I smoked while I was on it, I actually went to the ER once because I thought I had a blood clot, but I didn't. So yeah, hormones just weren't for me at all, I got a copper IUD because hormones mess me up!! good luck with whatever you do and seriously, if you find something that works well for you and doesn't cause too many undesireable side effects, stick with that because that makes you lucky!!Health Question & Answer

I think that it is irresponsible for a doctor to prescribe it for anything except for medical treatment for certain medical conditions, and should certainly not be prescribed for use as birth control. I personally think it should be taken off the market.

Sounds like you're one of the lucky ones who didn't gain a ton of weight, lose all their hair and bleed for months straight. Health Question & Answer
