Anyone on NuvaRing for a while?!

If you are inserting the ring correctly, that is, you started it all by putting it in the first day of your menstrual bleeding, then it should work right away (the drug is absorbed in your body really fast). If you missed a few days of when you are suppose to insert it, like say you start on the 2nd or 3rd day of your menstrual bleeding, then you'd probably need to make your guy wear a condom or use spermicide for that whole week to make sure you won't get pregnant. But after 7 days with the ring in, you should be fine. also, make sure after 3 weeks of the ring in and with the 1 week off, you insert another ring on the exact day you started the whole thing. (which I assume what you meant by your Sunday). The nuvaring is 99% effective in preventing pregnancy if used properly. Again, if you inserted it right, it should work right away, no need to wait months for the drug to kick in, cause when you put the ring in during your menstrual period your body has already stopped ovulating or making eggs, and with the ring in, the drugs keeps you from not ovulating like it normally does during the month. I've used the NuvaRing for over a year, once the ring has been in place for a full cycle..meaning last Sunday you took it out after three weeks in, this week you had your period and on Sunday the 7th you'll put a new one in.....You SHOULD have full effectiveness of the ring....However as great as it is it never hurts anything to use a second form of birth control such as a condom or spermicide
