Usually from experiance and what people tell me, the flow is heavier the first 2 nights. What I would do is just change your pad like you were 2-3 hrs. That could be normal for you. Everyone is different. Try to teach yourself to wake up in the middle of the night. Sometimes I change my pad ( or tampon) up to 2 times during the night. Your going to have many accidents were you bled through at night and as you get older it gets worse. But you will learn what works best for you through experiance. Trial and error. Take advantage of having an older sister. She knows your body better than any stranger on the internet. Keep track of the days on and days off on a calender. This will help you see pattern and you will be prepared. Dont be afraid to ask questions. When I was 11, I started my period. There were a couple friends who started befor me and a couple after. We would ask each other questions and helped eah other.Health Question & Answer

You should stick with pads until you feel comfortable with the idea of tampons. As far as how heavy it is, it's completely normal. Some people have heavier periods than others.

Your period probably won't be at the same time of month as your sister's because your periods will take around a year (it varies) to come around the same time each month. also, it does occur sometimes that girls living in the same household get them around the same time of month because they are around each other a lot.

If you have any other questions like this, there is a very good book with lots of information about taking care of yourself. It is by the American Girl company and it is called "The Care and Keeping of You". I found this book to be very helpful.Health Question & Answer

the first time i used a tampon i was scared but i like it a lot more then pads because i don't have to worry about getting stains all over my clothing. you may not get the tampons in right the first few tries but you'll get it right in time and also keep in mind your not supposed to feel the tampon inside you(so you know when you've got it in right).
i would recommend for a first timer to put a pad toward the back of your underwear and one on the front before going to bed.i remember the first time i "became a woman" i was so uncomfortable and kind of grossed out, but in time you'll learn how to work things out and your flow won't be as heavy.
good luck and if it isn't to awkward ask your sister :).Health Question & Answer

its okay, just calm down!! having a cycle is apart of becoming a young woman. its okay if you are bleeding heavy, once you start having them regularly you will get some light some heavy days. and no you will not have the same day as our sister, everyone is different. dont use tampons just yet, you're kind of young and it may hurt, talk to your sister for more advice , but once again dont worry a cycle is a part of life so just think of it as a self cleansing experience!Health Question & Answer

That's totally normal. When I first got my period, it was freakishly heavy. Tampons are much more comfortable than pads, more sanitary, and just overall, better. I suggest wearing tampons especially since you're flow is very heavy. Ask your sister how to use a tampon, and no they don't hurt at all. Although, you are pretty young to use tampons... maybe you should wait a while. Ask your sister what she thinks. But you don't have to have sex before you use tampons. Make sure you know the risk of using tampons, TSS.Health Question & Answer

I wouldn't wear tampons before you've had sex.

also, don't worry your period will end up stabilizing and coming regularly, don't fret. It could take as long as a year but in the end it;s gonna come every month.Health Question & Answer

ok is your changing it evry 2 to 3 hours and its bleeding through its not heavy you just not changing it enough.... change it every hour.
(mine can go through a regular tampon in 30 minutes... i have to get on b/c) =[[Health Question & Answer

It's your first period and your body is having new hormones and experiencing things it's never experienced before, so it prolly is heavy, but it WILL get better! Don't use Tampons... you're too young! Health Question & Answer

You should talk to your sister, she'd help you out more then we could. (:Health Question & Answer
