Why do I bleed every time I pee?!

Question: Why do I bleed every time I pee.?
I am currently only 17 years old, and just recently, I have been having these very strong urges to pee. When I do pee, it hurts like crazy and I bleed. Sometimes, I pee very little when I get these strong urges, other times I pee a lot. I definitely know it is not my time of month yet because it has already passed. I currently cannot see my doctor since he is on vacation right now, and I don't know what it is or what to do. My mom thinks it is urinary infection, because she has it as well, and she got antibiotics for it. Does that most likely mean I have it too.? What about the part about me bleeding.? Help.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
What you are describing sounds exactly like a urinary tract infection. Your mother having one has nothing to do with you having one... They are in no way contagious.
You do need to go to the doctor and get some medication quickly though. UTI's can spread further up the urinary tract, and cause more painful and possibly harmful symptoms.
Seeing that most people have difficulty getting to see their doctor on the weekend, they have some over the counter medication at the pharmacy that can help with the pain. It's a generic form of Pyridium. Make sure to speak to the pharmacist about it beforehand though, as you often have to stop taking it 24 hours before your appt. with your doctor as it will mess up the test they do to check for these infections.
Good luck! I'm sorry that you are in so much pain... I know how uncomfortable it can be! Try to drink lots of water right now, as it will make it hurt a bit less when you urinate.Health Question & Answer

a sign of blood is never a good sign. it does sound like a uti but if you've never had one before it's best to go to the doctor. you pee in a cup and they test for certain bacteria. there are over the counter meds and tests, go to the feminine section of the pharmacy and there are products called azo or cystex which contain a product to help the burning and pain. however with the blood you should definitely see a md to make sure there is nothing wrong, like a kidney stone.Health Question & Answer

Yep, it's a UTI. They are no fun, but easy to treat. See your dr as soon as you can. They are very uncomfortable and the blood is common. Health Question & Answer
