TSS is a systemic (through your whole system) infection that has a very rapid onset accompanied by a very high fever.

It once was associated with the use of tampons and not changing them often enough. Several years ago there were several incidences of TSS and the one thing the girls all had in common was they were on their period and used tampons. The manufacturers of tampons changed the absorbent material and there have been no cases of TSS associated with tampon use reported since.

Try a tampon and see if you like it. lot of girls don't. once you've experienced both, you can make a better informed choice about what to use.Health Question & Answer

TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) is actually pretty rare and does happen with the use of tampons. It happens when a tampon is left in for a long period of time (it is recommended that a tampon does not stay in for longer than 7 hours) and bacteria start to build up. You will become very nauseas and have other symptoms and should get to the ER if you experience any symptoms. For more information, check on the packet insert in the tampon box.

Tampons these days are pretty safe to use. Just select the one a bit lighter than your flow this way you will not have to leave it in for a long period of time. Quite frankly, I rather tampons as they are much more convenient (swimming, easy to conceal in your purse, etc.) and does not feel like you are wearing a diaper and nor do you feel any "leakage" (I HATE that feeling with pads!).Health Question & Answer

Toxic shock syndrome is a rare bacterial infection that can be caused by a number of things, but was originally associated with a highly absorbent tampon called Rely (which has since been withdrawn from the market). Tampons are very comfortable once you get used to inserting them (which just takes practice). As long as you change them every few hours (and wash your hands before and after putting them in), you should be fine.

If you don't know how to properly care for tampons then use pads you can get a serious infection from leaving them in for hours at a time. You can also get Toxic Shock Syndrome from not cleaning your naughty toys properly too. I dont use toys but when I went to a romance party they told us that. So be careful with things you stick up inside you.Health Question & Answer

you bleed to rid yourself of "old" uterine lining. it has to shed in order to stay "up to date" if you will. When you use a tampon and forget to take it out overnight, toxins from the dead lining build up and are re- absorbed into your body. To many toxins cause the body to get sick hence Toxic Shock Symdrome. they ARE safe if used properly however NEVER wear one overnight or for more than 3-4 hours at a time.Health Question & Answer

tss (toxic shock syndrome) is when the blood is contained in your vagina too long and it breeds dangerous bacteria.

if you want to use tampons, don't worry about tss. just make sure that you change your tampon every four to six hours if you have a heavy flow, and on lighter days, you can go for about eight.Health Question & Answer

toxic shock syndrome is when you get a infection from the wet pad being in you for more then 8 hours. If I was in your situation, I would wear pads for a couple weeks to a month, and then check with my gyn to see if its anything really serious. Next time you wear a tampon, though, make sure that you change it every 2-6 hours depending on your flow.

hope you feel better soon!Health Question & Answer

It's extremely rare. Just don't wear a tampon for more than 4 hours, and use the lightest absorbency possible (don't use a super if you can get by on a regular) and you'll be fineHealth Question & Answer

Its your choice but I personally think pads are gross. Tampons have a higher risk of giving a yeast infection but tss is rare. Thats really the only downside and just make sure you change it every few hours.Health Question & Answer

yes, use tampons. they are so convenient. tss is super rare and if you change your tampons every 2-4 hours and use pads at night , you have nothing to worry about.Health Question & Answer

its 1% to get it. most ppl who think they have it just have an infection-use tampax brand-or 95% plus cotton -they have very low side effects-some off brands may contain chems to keep fresh-
they are great when used rightHealth Question & Answer

I like tamps better. I feel much cleaner. You should wear a pad along with your tamp b/c sometimes it leaks if your period is heavy. Just dont have your tamp for more than 4hours. It's gross anyways.Health Question & Answer

Tampons are fine. Dint let those warning labels scare the crap out of you. I have used them for years. Toxic shock is actually very rare.Health Question & Answer
