** I know she's having a baby, but what's the hold up.? I'm understanding that her water has broken and contractions are pressing the abdomen helping to push the baby out. Why the build of shorter contractions.?Health Question & Answer

her cervix is dilating. this can take a while. the female body is complex and so is having a baby! it's not just like, bam, push it out!Health Question & Answer
Sometimes the woman body may not be diahlating enough, you have to be at least 6cm before they are suppose to give you a epideral. Sometimes the epideral medicine can slow the contractions and make the baby lazy. That baby will come out when it's ready, but if the water has already broke, that will be soon. The baby does not have anything protecting it now from infection. Either she opens up or be prepared to have a c-section which she does not wantHealth Question & Answer
She WILL have the baby within 24 hours of her water being broken - or else infection will set in. It takes time - she's effacing (thinning out) and her cervix is dialating. It's just all a process.Health Question & Answer
