OMG don't be! I had the EXACT same problem when I started getting my periods about six months ago, plus I couldn't work out where to put them (LOL)! But I swear they CHANGE YOUR LIFE! IT'S AMAZING! I wore pads for my first and second period and I HATED them with a passion! There massive and you have to constantly check that nothings err... leaking. But tampons are fabtastical! I'm still too chicken to use the ones without an applicator because they look sore! But I use the pink Tampax ones (which smell nice too) and if you're really nervous you can do what I did and start of with the extra light tampons (the Tampax ones are a purple colour). All you have to do is pull down the bottom, insert the tampon up to the ridge bit and then push the end, kind of like a syringe and remove the applicator and voila! You just have to remember that it's not going to hurt and nothing can possibly go wrong and if you use the light ones you can wear a panty liner as well just in case.

Hope this helps!Health Question & Answer

The ones with plastic applicators *definitely* make things easier for girls who've never used tampons before... but once you know how, anything that's comfortable to wear will be easy to insert. If you do it properly and insert the tampon far enough, it won't hurt to insert one and you won't really be able to feel it while wearing it. My stepdaughter began using them without problems for her second period, just 3 months after her 11th birthday.

Helpful advice (beyond the semi-useless package directions).? Yeah... just three things:

1) Aim the tampon more towards your back than upwards... your vagina actually goes *back* for more than half of its length, not just up, and it's almost parallel to the floor if you're sitting on the john... and push it gently (twisting it back and forth a bit might help it slide more easily) as far in as the applicator will go while you're still holding the end of it. Push the plunger in while holding the barrel in place, then let go of the plunger and withdraw the applicator.

2) It'll be easier to do the first time if things are slippery "down there", so don't wipe away any blood and stuff until you've got the tampon in place. If there's very little blood there, just smear a couple of drops of saliva on the tip of the tampon (or its applicator if it has one) and it'll make things a lot more comfortable.

3) Relaxation is **important**. If relaxing isn't easy for you, try pushing just a little bit as if you're trying to poop or pee... your pelvic muscles will relax a bit and that will help a *lot*.

OK...you have to ask yourself what is it that is making you scared....Go online and read the statistics and success stories that women are having while using TAMPONS....There was a time when the use of them caused women to have TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME but now, 20 years later, Tampons are made to be more safer and reliable and can make a very happy period!.....The absorbency that Tampons give is the best product for menstrual flow and you never have to worry about a mess because the "PLUG" stays in place....SO, I really hope this help you and if not, Try the ALWAYS MAXI PADS, they work miracles as well!.....BE PROTECTED HONEY...Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

Scared of what.? Women do this all the time. Things very rarely go wrong, and when they do, it's no biggie (they can get stuck, or you can leave them in too long.).Health Question & Answer

Try using O.B.
There is no applicator, it's the only kind I use. Seriously, once you do it once, it's no biggie from then on.Health Question & Answer

Its not that scary. And it is way better than having a huge pad between your legs all day. Try it anyway it can only go in so far.Health Question & Answer
