Advice re coming off the contraceptive pill?!

Question: Advice re coming off the contraceptive pill.?
I was put on the pill to help ease the agony of my periods. Since I have been on it my periods have been pain free and also relatively non-existent.

My doctor weighed me and said since going on the pill (as of April 2008) I have gained a stone despite my eating habits not changing. I am attributing this to the pill and I now wish to come off it.

What I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the same and if they returned to their normal weight having come off the pill.

Many thanksHealth Question & Answer

don't you just love how people answer questions they have no clue about.?

i was in the same boat as you were. i gained a good bit of weight on the pill, it's mostly water weight. i stopped it and within a few months i was back to me pre pill weight and i'd even lost 3 pounds. you can try to take diuretics to help take off the water weight faster, that's what i did.

i hope i helped a little.Health Question & Answer

Why not just request a different pill.? There are low-dose options that might still help with the agony of your periods without the side-effect of weight gain. also, I believe that the weight gain is generally only an issue when you first start taking the pill, so stopping now may not change anything. If you decide to ask for a different pill, I take Zovia and am very happy with it.Health Question & Answer

I gained 70lbs when I started the pill. I also had terrible mood swings and my complexion went to crap. I told my doctor I didn't want to take the pill anymore and he ok'd that. Nothing changed for me after I stopped taking it, but I told that I was more of the exception to the rule. The good news is that the time I was on the pill regulated my period. I've been off the pill for 3 years, and I still enjoy relatively pain-free menstruations.
I would suggest you increase your exercise level for at least a little while after you stop taking the pill.Health Question & Answer

Birth control does not make you gain weight. That is a myth!

I have not gained any weight, and have been on it for well over a year. There is probably another explanation for you gaining weight. I had AGONIZING periods, and got on it and had pretty much pain free periods. Then one month, I forgot to fill my prescription, and was like ooh..I'll just let it go. PAIN!!!!! don't do it dude. I don't know if yours are as bad as mine, but just try to remember how it was before going on those pills.Health Question & Answer
