Well, normally, it just smells of "female" and that is OK; it is just a sex attractant that broadcasts . "Hey! Here is a sexually mature female!"
If it smells extra "fishy", and if you are very irritated and itchy, it just might be a sexually transmissible infection, called "Trichomonas vaginalis". Your Dr or sexual health clinic can diagnose this, and treat it. It is a protozoan parasite. We see them in our lab, occasionally.
If it is just itchy and irritated, it might be yeast overgrowth; "thrush". Your Dr can prescribe anti-fungal drugs, or we can buy them "over the counter" from pharmacies here in Australia. I would strongly recommend that you __also__ eat yogurt; it's a good dairy food; a source of "good bacteria" and protein and calcium, and harmless to most people (exceptions; if you are allergic to cow milk). The bacteria used up the lactose while making the acid which curdled the milk, so AFAIK, it is low in lactose.
I see you are not too worried, so I guess it is not very irritated. In that case, it is probably just the normal mucus, that is constantly shed from the vagina. The cervix is sealed with mucus, that changes in texture during the menstrual cycle.
Some people take out this mucus, and check its consistency, during the month, to see where their fertile days are. You can use this, if trying for a baby, but it is not VERY reliable, if you are trying NOT to have a baby; use other contraceptive methods as well, to be sure!
