Herpes on my foot?!

Question: This funny little spot on my foot showed up a couple of months ago. My doctor did a culture on it and it turned out to be the herpes virus. However, he did not give me any more info about it. It was on the top of my foot. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this? What does it mean? Is it a STD?
Answers:
No. The herpes (STD) you're thinking of is genital herpes, caused by herpes simplex 2.
Herpes virus is a broad term, and can include many viruses such as herpes simplex 2, herpes simplex 1 (cold sores), varicella-zoster virus (chickenpox, shingles). Also, I have never heard that herpes simplex 1 has mutated into herpes simplex 2, so I'm afriad I can't agree with the answer above.

There was a lady on the news here a few years ago that got herpes on her hands from infected tools at a nail salon. The poor woman has to wear gloves all the time, and can never actually touch her children without gloves for fear of infecting them.
it must be like a cold sore, which i once got one on the back of my arm and the doctor said it was a rare outbreak of herpies that was caused by some antibiotic i was taking for something else
maybe it is like a fever blister, a fever blister is of the herpes virus but stays dorment awhile but is nothing like the vaginal herpes.
Athletes foot is the same thing as jock itch.. Herpes virus can be something as simple as a cold sore.. I'd talk to your doctor again to straighten things out. I'd suggest if you use a communal shower.. like in a gym or something .. wearing flip flops. I'm not sure that what you have is an STD .. call the doc.
It could be the herpes virus as Zosters or commonly known as Shingeles.
Shingeles is from the chicken pox virus that stays dormant in your body and then later reaapers.
Usually if its shingeles the outbreak will be at the top of the spine to one side ,on a shoulder, arm, side of face.
Or at the base of spine to one side on hip or lower back etc.
Also can cover the torso.
If he did a culture he should be able to tell you if it was more specifically Shingeles,Not genital or oral herpes.
Hope that helps you out.
There are some wrong and dangerous answers to your question. The herpes virus has mutated in recent years and cold sores or fever blisters are now the same strain as Herpes Simplex II. You can have Herpes sores on any part of your body. There is no cure for it and it can be transmitted to other anytime you have contact with them.
Sorry that you have got it but so do 75million other Americans
