epileptic ?!

Question: epileptic what is what causes it? can you get rid of it? can you have it for all your life but the semptoms dont kick in till your like 18 and can you die from it?
Answers:
See the website http://www.epilepsy.com/. It should answer all your questions. If not discuss your concerns with a Neurologist. I was a medicated epileptic, when I was a child. However, I was taken off the medicine when I was 14. I haven't had a seizure since I was 5 (36 now), but once they diagnose you as having epilepsy, you will always have it..it just may not be active enough for medication. Good Luck and I hope the website gives you a better understanding of epilepsy.

I am 42 and was just given my diagnosis today of Atypical Petit Mal Seizures which I've been having for one year. I have been given Dilantin, but I had an allergic reaction. Now I am trying Keppra. It is inaccurate brain activity and it can be brought on by hereditary, head injury, or like in my case, a brain tumor. Once you have it, you're not apt to get rid of it, but if you stick with the medicine you probably won't have any seizures. It can be fatal, but you can get your best information from www.medlineplus.gov.
I'm an epileptic. What epilepsy is neurons going crazy in your brain which cause a seizure. If your left in a seizure long enough sure you can die I technically died for 4 minutes so doctors told me because they couldn't bring me out. What causes it you can be born with or it can show later in life or can be caused by major head trauma.Symptoms are there right away not at 18. Unfortunately you will have it your whole life. I was 9 month old when I diagnosed with epilepsy so if got questions I can answer them for you.
Like stated above, it is a nuerological condition.I was diagnoised when I was 14, and have been taking medications for 20 years now. It can strike at any age, and there is a myriad of medications for it.A nuerologist will likely take a an EEG to record brain waves, and possibly an MRI test to see where your seizures orginate from. All that technical mumbo jumbo aside, it is a condition that MANY people have, their are numerous support groups, and lots of info on the web. Be aware of what type of seizures you have, always tell people that you have epilepsy ( i.e. wear a med alert bracelet) and tell them what to do and what NOT to do if you have a seizure. Many successful men and women have had epilpesy, notably Doestsky and Van Gogh. Visit the website mentioned in the above answer or check out the American Epilpesy Foundation online. Best of luck and health.
