I couldn't make myself eat.?!

Question: I'm 16. I've been worried a lot about my weight lately. I've been stressing and dieting and exercising and stuff. Because of certain things I'm scared that I might get an eating disorder. I sometimes feel so guilty when I eat lots of sweets that I cry.

This is not one of the main things, but. My family was just eating dinner. I was hungry, but I only ate a few bites of food. I haven't had much else to eat today. I was hungry, but I just COULDN'T bring myself to eat more than a few bites. I don't want an eating disorder, but I realize that some of my behaviours of late are getting there. What should I do? I can't talk to anybody about this, because they'll freak out on me. It's really not that big of a deal. So what can I do to help myself?
Answers:
PLEASE talk to someone like a school counselor or doctor. I have had an eating disorder in the past and it SUCKS! From time to time it comes around again and I have to fight it- and its not easy. There is obviuosly something going on inside your head that is causing you so subconciously not want to eat. Try keeping a journal and writing down all your thoughts surrounding this. It will help and sometimes you will write down your own answer. If you need to talk more to me about this please email me- I will respond. I know all to well the dangers both mental and physical of eating disorders and I would hate to see someone else fall prey to this crap! LOL.

Girls growing up amid family problems and abuse are at high risk for eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia -- unless they get help dealing with their emotional reactions to those problems, according to a new study.

More than 800 undergraduate students took part in the study, conducted by Suzanne E. Mazzeo, PhD, a psychologist with Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, and Dorothy L. Espelage, PhD, with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Their findings appear in the current issue of the Journal of Counseling Psychology.

Each student in the study completed a questionnaire about her childhood family environment and childhood trauma. They also took tests to determine whether they were depressed, had difficulties identifying and expressing emotions, and if they had an eating disorder.

The researchers found that family conflict and other problems -- as well as physical and emotional abuse and neglect during childhood -- set the stage for potential eating disorders.
People die of eating disorders. Plus it doesn' sound like you are really happy. I think you should tak to a counselor (not just us) and get some help. Perhaps this can be easily fixed.
Honey I would talk to someone. It doens't have to be someone in family or friends. Maybe a guidance couselor or a teacher. If you go to church, you could talk to your minister. Yes, you could possibly be stressed or you could have the early warning signs of anorexia. PLEASE get some help of some sort.
