is it possible to have a permanent bruise?!

Question: in about november of last year (2005) this 230 or so pound boy jumped as hard as he could onto a 10lbs table and i happened to be sitting at that table and the bent part of the desk (the underside bar) slammed into my thigh . it hurt for a month but i did nothing about it and there is a dent where he slammed onto , so my question is , is it possible to have permanent bruises from such an incident?

The actually BRUISE..should eventually go away.

I was in a car accident once and bruised the muscle (as opposed to just the "regular" kind of bruising).it was painful for a very long time, and did stay discoloured for about 6 months.

If you're still concerned see a doctor
This should have already healed. Seriously, you need to go to the doctors.
It depends on the type of bruise. For the one you describe, I would go see a doctor.

"A bruise or contusion or ecchymosis is a kind of injury, usually caused by blunt impact, in which the capillaries are damaged, allowing blood to seep into the surrounding tissue. They often induce pain but are not normally dangerous. Sometimes, however, bruises can be serious, leading to hematoma, or can be associated with serious injuries, including fractures and internal bleeding. Minor bruises are easily recognized by their characteristic blue or purple color in the days following the injury.

The word "bruise" is also used for fruit — a fruit is bruised when an impact breaks the internal water-containing structures, leading to a soft spot. More generally, "bruise" is used metaphorically to mean any minor injury: one's ego might be bruised if one's painting was not included in a gallery showing, for example. The implication is that the injury is painful but minor and will recover on its own.

The presence of bruises may be seen in patients with platelet or coagulation disorders. Unexplained bruising may be a warning sign of child abuse or serious medical problems, such as leukemia and meningoccocal infection. Anybody with unexplained bruising needs urgent examination by a doctor."

A bruise is caused by the breaking of small blood vessels. They eventually heal, and the blood (clotted) is re-absorbed, so no, it can't be permanent. If a mark stays there, you might want to see a doctor about it, it is not a bruise.

If it is still there six months later, it would probably be a good idea to do so.
You could have a blood bruise which I know is what a bruise is anyway, but what I mean is that the blood could have gathered and clotted there and might stay there a long time. My boyfriend has permanent bruises from ju jitsu. Also a bed fell on my knee before and it was about 6 months before the discoloration went away. Excuse my completely non-medical explanation to arrive at the answer yes it is possible.
a bruise is an injury damaging the cappillaries with the blood seeping to the surrounding tissues. As long as the damage will be healed the bruise will be gone. Some bruises can be dangerous others are just minor. If the pain persists for a long time, see your physician to be sure.
You have suffered a direct trauma the the muscle. Tissue damage possibly. If there is no pain your probably OK but if in doubt see a Dr.
