Question:
Answers:
You do this because your blood sugar level has dropped low from not eating sweets during the day. And you are probably about to lose some weight. The body is stubborn and it sometimes tricks us into gaining weight by hitting us at our most vulnerable time. Your time is at night.

It could be a phsycological thing. In the day your are awake and working and busy, while being productive why would you want to be lazy and snack, while at night your tired, you worked hard and now all you want is to treat yourself and laydown.
It's a normal inclination. U should try eating more during the day so u r less hungry at night. Filling things like vegetables. When u get home, try snacking on celery rater than junk. It will make u feel full and is very low calorie
fun answer: your inner freak longs to be fed the "good stuff."

medical answer: junk food is all relative. Try to find foods which are sort of tasty but without too much fat, sugar or overall calories. make sure that you are not relying on your desserts to fill you up and complete your dinner.

Personally, I have found that the (I hate that I am giving free advertising here but) Trader Joe's "Pita Chips with Cinnamon and Sugar" is incredibly tasty. It was also surprisingly low in calories (130), low total fat, no saturated fat, and NO cholesterol. The answer to my prayers when eaten in mild amounts.

It may be a mineral deficiency.. We often crave salts, because we are missing some mineral in our diets. In animals, this behavior is called cribbing or pica.

If you are interested, I can point you to a vitamin and mineral product that may help you offset those late night munchies. Write me (wasdadd) at yahoo.
Are you drinking enough water? You need about 1 litre to every 25 kg of body weight per day. The brain alone needs 1.5 litres by it self and it will take it from where ever it has to - vital organs and FOOD. If you have conditioned your body by not drinking water then it is most likely that instead of feeling thirsty your body makes you feel hungry just to get its daily water requirement. So drink more water or just dont buy any junk food
You might feel the need to reward yourself for getting through the day or treating yourself before starting the next, I always like being awake at night and junk food seems like a good way to keep yourself (and others) awake and have fun while everyone else is calm and quiet
