can nail polish harm gold jewellry?!

Question: I am having an allergic reaction to a gold ring and want to coat it with clear nail polish to help buffer the gold against my skin
Answers:
no. nothing can corrode gold.
pretty immpervious to all natural elements, and chemical

Other Answers:
Regular clear nail polish will NOT affect gold. However, do not try using nail paint remover on the ring.

Simple reason, gold in itself is very non-reactive. It is the other elements in the gold which are causing your skin allergy. These are the same elements which will get corroded with chemicals in nail paint REMOVERS or other strong chemicals. Clear nail polish is a kind of laquer so it will not react.

SOME MORE RELATED STUFF for gold allergy:

Gold in its pure form (24K) does not corrode with normal elements in the atmosphere. However, if the Karatage of your gold is 18K or less, it WILL get affected (blackened) by certain elements in the air as well as cause allergic reactions.

If you can, try going for a higher Karatage of gold for your jewelry. 22K should be appropriate. However, if you have stones set then go for 18K gold.

Make sure there is no nickel used as a base for your gold. It is a banned element for jewelry but is still used every now and then in the industry (and is the most common reason for allergy in gold jewelry).

Also white gold will be less reactive (and hence better) and pink gold MOST reactive for you. Yellow gold is also good in higher karatages. Try to buy your jewelry from someone who knows what they are selling and make sure to ask them about the karatage of gold and that it does not have any nickel.

nail polish will only last 2-3 days , then will peel, best bet is to use other metal. :)
