What is the "normal" blood pressure for a woman age 70?!

For all adults in general, the medical guidelines are:
Less than 120/80 = ideal, healthy blood pressure.
120/80 to 139/90 = still in the normal range, but verging on hypertension.
140/90 to 159/99 = Stage 1 Hypertension (this is when your doctor will say you have high blood pressure).
160/100 and above = Stage 2 Hypertension (SEVERE high blood pressure).
As a person gets older, their systolic blood pressure (the top number - ie: 120 in 120/80) will get higher, and their diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number - ie: 80 in 120/80) will get lower. This is expected as a normal person ages. However, just because it's "normal" doesn't mean it's healthy. The 70 year old woman who has the typical 137/65 should still see her doctor about getting her blood pressure closer to 120/80. The heart is going to need more help as a person gets older, and no matter what age the person is, the heart always works best when blood pressures are close to 120/80. Hope this helps.
