I need help and advise on Low Carb dieting..and ideals so it isn't so hard to st!


Question: does anyone know how to get off sugar...especially chocolate..the cravings are so strong...I am diabetic

Don't try diets! Simply eat healthier and enjoy it! To get off sugar, substitute with fruit. When your body craves sugar, it wants natural sugar.

Atkins Diet

Do not eat more than 20 grams of Carbohydrates Daily

You may eat up to 3 cups of Salad Vegetables or 1 cup Cooked Vegetables

You may eat whenever you are hungry (calories do not count)
Note: I DID count my calories & lost weight faster

This diet consists of pure proteins, pure fats (butter, olive oil, canola oil, vegetable oil, mayonnaise etc..) and any combinations of proteins & fats.
You can eat as much fat as you want . !
what is not allowed is CARBOHYDRATES ( this is a major no-no ).

You may drink water, coffee (decaf), tea, diet soda (read label). Any Drink with 0 carbs is allowed.. NOTE: I DRANK COFFEE &/OR TOOK Caffeine /Herbal pills AND I STILL LOST WEIGHT !)

Follow all of this and you'll be good to go.
Switch to sweeters like Splenda - SweetNLow etc. Try sugar free fudge pops for a chocloate fix. Try and stick with it for 2 weeks and you probably won't crave the sugar as much. Make sure you eat regularly though, starving yourself will only make things worse.
I'd say follow that cheeno_gurl's advice. natural sugars. and also think about the effects or diabetes. nerve damage, diabetic coma, etc. they'll fight those cravings. I know a bit about diabetes, my dad's 60 and he has it, he has pretty well no feeling in his feet which makes it a bit hard for him to walk, and sometimes his hands shake so bad he can't hold a fork. AND DON'T GO WITH THAT ATKINS CRAP, YOU'LL LOSE SOME POUNDS BUT IT'S UNHEALTHY AND THE SECOND YOU GET OFF OF THAT DIET YOU'LL BLIMP OUT LIKE HELL.
I strongly suggest visiting http://learningcenter.atkins.com/. If you get a user ID (very quick!) you have access to "classes" which are basically info pages and discussions. Here you can post any question you like, respond to others, get help, motivation, etc. There are two instuctors that answer questions often and there are many members, many of which are very experienced with the low-carbohydrate lifestyle, that offer suggestions and tips.

Low carbohydrate eating is not for everyone, but since you are diabetic, it is a great way to curb sugar/carb cravings. You can do it and there are others around that will help! These message boards definitely are the key to my success. Good luck!
