A little nervous about this?!

Question: I started getting my period when I was about fifteen and I am now seventeen soon to be eighteen. It's never been regular but I just figured that it would become regular a little later. I started a diet and exercise plan on January 1st for my New Year's resolution to lose weight. My last period was on was at the end of December. I heard that dramatic weight loss and exercise will delay your period. I lost ten pounds. Well, I still havent gotten it and it's May. I've eased up on my diet and exercise because of this so I gained some weight back. Is there anyway I can make my period come back? I'm just a little nervous that something may be wrong with me but I'm to shy to tell anybody and go to a doctor. Please help.

You really need to see your doctor for an exam and testing, to determine what is going on. Menstraul abnormalities can be due to many things including pregnancy, stress, weight gain/loss, hormonal imbalance, thyroid, infection, illness, medications, polyp, cyst, amongst other reasons. Without a proper exam and testing it would be impossible to even guess what might be going on, so do see your doctor.

yeah something is wrong.
you need to get your butt to the doc incase it is something serious causing the problem.
wait till june. if you haven't gotten it at all, ask a dr. some girls only get it three times a year. it really depends on your body. no worries yet. possibly you could even CALL a dr. at your obgyn's clinic and just ask randomly/anonymously. God bless hon.
This could be a simple hormone imbalance, your Dr. is the best one to ask but in my experience the cure may be as simple as putting you on BC Pills to regulate your cycle again.
No. Your body is having you not have your period to make sure that you are OK. When you begin something regularly your body will get used to what you are doing and you will get your period.
Yes there sounds like something may be very wrong. Please see a doctor.
my sister had this same problem.. she talked to her doctor and was put on estrogen pills and birthcontrol..

i don't really know what your situation is, but i would talk to a doctor. just bring it up at your next physical

good luck
Weight loss can have a huge effect on your period. Did you have alot of weight to lose, or just a little. If you are underweight at all, that could be the problem. Use a BMI calculator (I'll add in link) and make sure you aren't underweight. If you are not underweight, try talking to a woman you can trust about it.

relax your mind being nervous or emotionally disturbed sometimes afeect the menstrual circle as far as you did not have sex with anybody it will come back.if you had sex pls go for pregnancy test to be on the safe side
normally you only loose your period when your body looses a lot of weight. this is really worrying as if you are loosing weight healthily you are doing it steadily. if you really really dont want to go to a doctor (which i really advise you do - try a nurse/nutritionist and if not either of them a family friend) make sure you eat plenty of green veg ie broccoli, cabbage and spinach because if your not receiving enough iron in your diet your more likely to be aneamic which can affect periods. if you are calorie counting make sure you are getting enough every day at least 1500. and make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

i really cant emphesise enough how inportant it is to speak to someone about this as you are a young woman and this is not normal. hope this helps
~~i think we all are shy about going to a doctor for that reason, but your best bet is to go to the doctor. i found going to a female physician is a lot easier than going to a male doctor. It could be that you just need some hormone replacements to get you going again. I was never regular with my periods, and put on prometrium which is a hormone of projesterone that is extracted from yams, so it's a more natural route to go than birth control pills. also if there is any possiblillity of pregnancy you should go get checked out. (i'm not saying that i think there is a chance of pregnancy, only you would know that). Take care of yourself~~
Being overweight or underweight can stop your periods. I didn't have one without medication for 10 years because of my weight. As soon as my weight was within certain limits my periods came back as regular as clock work. Your doctor can help you determine if your weight is the problem.
weight loss and excessive exercise will make your period irregular, and it will take it a while to get it back on track, although it might be a good idea to mention it to your docter. my friend did the same thing and it took her about 15 weeks to start again, but as everyone is different seeing your doctor would be on the safe side. you dont have to be nervous, they deal with that sort of thing all the time. and they are nice!
